Hmm... I'm stumped on this one...

1. the chime went off on me from just opening the door. (no key)
2. the radio shut off when I put it in reverse to pull out of the driveway
3. radio back on when I put it in drive.
4. got 100 yards down the street, radio off again.
5. I hear a little 'hissing' from under the dash (drivers side)
6. Also hear click / clock / click / clock (like "something" trying to reset itself or something -- tripping, then resetting) in the same area (under dash, drivers side)
7. stuck my head under there & noticed a stench of something 'hot' or the smell of a burning silicon or something... Didn't exactly smell like burning plastic or wires though.
8. opened hood and got a quick wiff of the same smell... but was gone in a blink and couldn't smell anything after that...

Now thinking the hissing sound was something sitting there just baking

Any ideas helpful... Thx...

(hope it's not another previous 'carowner special') :joke:

Has it been raining? My radio did that one time after sitting on an incline during a full day of steady rain and we figured it to be the GEM...Once it dried out, I had no more problems, although every now and then, my fan will keep blowing after I shut off the engine and remove the key. When it does that, I just turn it to off and it stops.

Also, every now and then, after a long period of steady rain, I will get a ticking sound under/behind the dash. Sometimes, turning the truck back on and then off again helps, but not always. If it does not help, I will need to jump it when I go to start it again at the end of my shift. Then I have no problems for weeks or months.

Funny thing is, it has been raining like crazy here over the past few weeks and I have had no issues. Of course, that was before I actually typed it out. Now, I've cursed myself.

Yeah, it rained a little last night (and I know I have leaks in the windshield) but it didn't rain like a few days and nights before... Good grief, I saw on a weather segment the other day that we've had rain 67 out of the previous 78 days or something like that.

I'm just sort of worried about the hissing sound? Like something fried? (and that smell was strange) Or that I put too much epsom salt in my battery when I reconditioned it a couple weeks ago? (causing something wierd)

Also going to see if the drains are plugged under the wiper arms?? I know it sat under a tree for a long time so maybe that's an issue too?

Googled the problem & all I got (with radio going on and off) was "transmition range sensor"... (however, that seems unlikely)

Like I say, the beat goes on...

change your windshield to stop it. it seems like water in the dash. let it dry out and you should be fine. what it sounds like to me is the water was completing the circuit on something and causing it to burn.

Looks like the demons possessing the car yesterday, have gone now

Obviously the windshield leak... I'll have to get it pulled and resealed. Funny thing is I called a dealer yesterday & told them of the issue & he acted like he's never heard of such an issue before... (that was very annoying)

:hmm: On the flip side I can cut the dealer a little slack because it was likely some tree hugging, 'green' freak that tried to sue ford for using sealant that worked perfectly but 'harmed' the enviroment in it's production... :flamingdevil: So sure, set cars, houses and people on fire because of it.

I guess it's not 'fords' problem after all?
