This weekend in approx. 20 deg F backed out of a parking space in a parking garage. Put into drive and started off. What should have been a 1 to 2 shift did not happen, the engine revd with no forward motion for a bit. let of the gas and revd again. Finally what must the 2nd gear clutch engaged rather violently.

With the wife in the car she immediately asked whats wrong with the truck. Have never had an AT not engage like that.

I have noticed that when it's cold (-15C / 5F or lower say) the first shift out of 1st after starting the truck is rougher than it should be. Nothing as drastic as you describe - mostly just a slight hesitation/jerk when it shifts. After that it's smooth.

Yup, same. Cold fluid. I imagine there's quite a bit of trans fluid in that thing. Takes a while to get moving around smoothly.
