I purchased a 97 EB Expedition a few weeks ago and i'm wondering if there are any tech bulletins or any issues that the expeditions are prone to deal with. I'd like to get them out of the way so they don't stick their foot in my ass later. Thanks for the help!:)

Hey Man, I have a 97 with the 4.6 and I have 180,000 miles on it. The only major problems I have had other than general maintenance is the preignition problem. It can be fixed by cleaning all of the carbon behind the throttle body. This can be fixed by either taking it apart and cleaing or just use come carbon cleaning agent sprayed into the Engine while it is running.

There is not too much to be proactive about other than prudent things to be done when purchasing a used car:

1) Get ALL fluids changed. You do not know when it was last done, so do it now:

- Front/Rear diff, transfer case
- POWER FLUSH tranny
- Flush brake system
- Oil/Filter (I would say...go synthetic)
- Power Steering
- Flush Radiator/cooling system

2) Inspect Brake system...especially the brake hoses

3) How many miles? You may want to change spark plugs (FYI, they are platinum)

4) Tires and alignment

5) Inspect/Replace Air Filter

6) Replace Fuel Filter

With the above done, you should have a good baseline of maintenance to go forward.

FYI, mines a '98 EB, 85k, no major issues, just some minor hiccups.

Good Luck & Welcome.
