The kind of stuff you're wanting to do will require tuning software like Quarterhorse or Pro Racer Package. I've been using PRP for a few years and I really like it.

Misspelling brought to you by Tapatalk

Based on what you've said and the advice of one other member I'm leaning toward starting with the SCT X3, and then purchasing the Pro Racer software so that I can make my own tunes a bit further down the line.

As of now I've only got about 2000 miles on this new to me vehicle. I'm planning on sending an oil sample to blackstone in another 1k miles to get an idea of what kind of condition the engine is in before spending any more cash on it.

Is anyone using a Edge Evolution 15050 on their expy? I'm having some difficulties with it on my '97 and am wondering if I should continue to try and get it to work. I tried installing the towing tune, and once it was complete it stated the PCM was not responding and to unplug the unit and plug it back in to return to stock. It's now in this same endless loop. The truck starts and seems to be working ok. I called Edge and they basically said that the unit doesn't work for the Expedition, only the F-150, and good luck. They said I can reset the unit via Fusion, and I will try that tonight when I get home. Any thoughts?

couple things here....I had a problem with mine and it didnt like to program the truck when it was cold...i have a 2000 expy with a 5.4....once i let the truck get to operating temp it would take the program....if your programmer if for a F150 and with a 4.6 or 5.4 and within in the same year it should work...if its for a older f150 with a 5.8 it will not work. If it wont program after operating temp, call Mark Haywood at Edge and let him know your a member here and see if he can be of more help. btw...Edge never heard of the problem I had with mine needing to warm up...

Well, I reset the unit via the Fusion software thanks to the guys at Edge, but it still did the same thing to me when I tried to update the tune. It would write all four files, then state the PCM wasn't responding. This is after I had driven the truck around for 10 minutes or so and got everything up to running temp just like BakerEdition said. No luck...I'll try and call Mark tomorrow and see if he can offer any other assistance.

Another option is to just find a tuner you trust and have them provide files for you. A True calibrator level tuner can send you something much better suited to your individual needs than you will download from a generic piece. Whether it be any name brand device. And for whats it worth there is only so much you can do with a naturally aspirated motor. Likely there is more trans changes than anything in the different files. Again a calibrator level tuner could do much better.

I would reccomend searching around on the lightning forums and giving some of em a call. SCT pro racer is an option as well, but it takes a lot to learn with it, and unless your planning on making regular changes its kind of a waste of money IMHO.

I tried Sniper software and that may be a cheaper option for the entry level guy looking to do basic tune stuff (like an NA expedition) but it was missing all sorts of tables that i needed for heavily modded trucks and the SCT software has them.

I'm only looking to get a little boots in fuel economy with a tuner, and I'm not looking to spend any more money than I really need to in order to accomplish that. I got the tuner off ebay, for what I think was a good deal, and would really like for it to work for my truck. I also like the fact I can look up CEL codes and clear them, and monitor the other various engine and electrical components of the vehicle all from this little device.

I gave Mark a call, but only got his voicemail. Hope he can give me a call back tomorrow and help me get this thing working.

Looks like Mark is out till Nov. 5th at SEMA...I guess I won't be getting anything figured out anytime soon then.

Called Edge again, and they said it will absolutely not work on the '97 expy, and none of their newer decives will support the '97. Does anyone have specifically a '97 with any of the Edge devices working? Thanks.

Dont know why they cant support a 97, but i dont deal with an edge, check around on the diesal forums they are very popular over there. If you cant get to the bottom of it look into an SCT xcal2. THey are available pretty reasonable and work very well for the ford vehicles. They can also check and clear CEL codes, and agian an experienced tuner can help you with files via email for a decent price. IF you get to a standstill with the edge and need any info on the SCT stuff just shoot me a pm and ill be glad to help you!.
