Anyone using 17” wheels?

The gen1 Special Edition wheels are probably my favorite raptor wheels so far but honestly those fit the expo perfectly. I hear the Gen1 wheels work too you just need to update the tpms and lug nuts (different thread pitch).

I saw a new raptor the other day with the factory gunmetal wheels and thought they would look good as well.

Ok, I’m looking for Raptor wheels on eBay and there are a fair amount on there. Those in the know, can you verify the following statements as true or false?
1. I can run these without a lift.
2 Looks like they are the same width as what stock on my Navigator, 8.5 inches, however the rears won’t be able to fit the center cap unless I trim the axel.
3. same bolt pattern.
4. I’ll need 4 TPMS and a programmer.

My needs are a wheel/tire package for off road duty to pull my overland trailer. I won’t run these all the time as I mostly drive on the street and I like the look and ride of what came stock. I really don’t care about the appearance of my weekend warrior wheels, more concerned about function. Should I get the bead-lock ones? Again, I’ll be towing and I’m not looking to test the meddle of my truck, just get into places the stock wheel/tires would are a poor choice for.

The issue is finding a tire with similar specs as the stock ones. A 285/45R22 has a 32.1" circumference. You would need to find a 285/70R17 to get close to that. That will give you a 32.7" circumference. Were you may have issues is if and wen you decrease the tire pressure and your tires begin to bulge. You may begin to hit the UCA socks/struts, or other components.

You may be able to use 33" wheels, but then you would need to start looking at speakers to push the wheels outward. Possible, but not sure if you want to go that route.

Remember the raptor wheels are 10mm further out (34 vs 44 offset). I like the raptor wheels (not the gun metal), but the spokes ‘poke out’ a bit from the rim. Unless you have a wide tire, like the OEM raptor tires, it looks like you might run the risk of ‘curbing’ them.

I’d like to see a raptor wheel with a more sedate (but still off-road capable) tire on them.

The main reason I see to do raptor takeoffs is deals in the $1000-1300 range for the wheels and tires together. Giving you a direct bolt on option for a relatively capable offroad setup. The fact the raptor wheels stick out a bit more will help with the UCAs. Fingers crossed we can make the icons work without hassle.

Thanks for the CL link, looking locally is far cheaper but they also all have the stock tires that won’t fit without rubbing. I could try and trade them in when getting a different size. Based on the two other comments before yours my hopes of these being a real easy alternative isn’t totally dashed but still somewhat diminished. Thankfully, I’m not in a hurry. I’m still weighing my options here...

I saw this on another post which sent me down this rabbit hole to begin with. I really don’t want to lift but based on this shopped image it does look good. I just don’t want to be married to the tires... I’d get a more off road dedicated vehicle instead.

@sjwhiteley mentioned the difference in offsets on the stock vs raptor wheels... I wonder if that would take the place of the spacers. I’d be willing to take a chance on the 32.7 inch circumference... looks like I have some more homework to do before buying. Thanks for the info!

My issue with a dedicated AT vehicles is they are no good long distance (unless Range Rover). I'm stuck driving long distances to begin to use it. These trucks are basically F150s. Mild lift with good tires and it's quite a capable off road vehicle. I'm hoping to stuff 33s with the lowest lift possible. Some trimming (have to see what it looks like under the liners) will definitely be in my future. The Icons near the lowest setting should make it work. Will probably put the rear up .25inches so it sits better while towing.

Glad my plan worked... And yes, that is what I have heard is necessary to make the swap. I'd get black lugs if you have the choice.

I agree completely about the dedicated AT vehicle, I considered the new defender for about 10 seconds until I recalled their maintenance and reliability reputation. We got the Navigator mainly for day to day and road trips but we do a fair amount of forest service road driving and now with a overland trailer I feel like I need to step up the tires to match our needs. Idk, maybe the AT tires won’t be so bad, I throughly enjoy the ride as it is now but I don’t enjoy the fear of encountering mud while off pavement.

I could live with a 1/4 inch lift.
