I have a 2020 Expedition and all of a sudden, my auto shut off is not working. What might have happened to cause this?

Yup, check the status, if it says due to charging, then a new battery should be in your near future. Mine is doing this and the other telltale signs, I figure mine will last through the summer and I'll replace it before winter.

Try trickle charing your battery monthly. It really helps with battery life and allows auto stop/start to work.

Plus if it over around 80 degrees, or you have the air blasting, etc. it wont shut off.

Mt 2019 Limited started doing this as well. I don't drive the vehicle enough. I purchased it brand new and around three years later it only has around 16k miles, which probably decreased the battery life. Still, surprised to see a brand new OEM battery to begin to fail so quickly.

Auto Start is so ridiculously stupid. It will destroy your battery. A Lead Acid battery is designed for high CCA starting and does not have the Reserve Capacity of a Deep Cycle Battery. So constantly asking the Battery to deliver these AMP spikes all day and they try to recharge is a good way to kill the battery. When the car shuts of and the accessories are running, even headlights at night, a non Deep Cycle battery does not like that RC kind of load.

Auto start was probably invented by the Service Department to crank up the billable hours of the Turbo Encabulator.

Original battery in my 2019. Just replaced it this month 4/2023. Limped it along with an agm charger. Was losing accessories and decided it was time. 4 1/2 years and 40k decided it was time to replace with OEM battery. Put it on my agm charger to top it off.

Spend your time blaming the EPA for Auto Stop Start.
I blame the manufacturer because they are the ones fighting for top slot on the MPG sales sticker to attract eco buyers. Lots of cars sold today do not have that feature.

The best way to make your battery live a longer life as well as your starter is to disable the AS&S each time you drive. Its the dumbest feature ever and doesn't really save much gas anyways
Every time the engine shuts off, the oil drains to the sump. Every time it starts, the oil needs to be pulled from the sump and pumped back to the engine. That two seconds of low oil for 30 times a day cannot be good for your engine. Do yourself a favor and buy one of those auto start relays that keeps your auto-start-stop in the "off" mode.

Count your blessings. Many owners have spent $90 to bypass this "feature".

You were cursing under your breath at the silliness of the system, and it was mistaken for a prayer, which was answered.
But trying a new battery would be a good idea. You will lose other functions, like your rear door unlock sensors and Interior lights will go out in just a few seconds instead of 10 minutes.
