Auxiliary driving light mounting

Just looking for ideas/options in mounting some auxiliary driving lights on a third gen. There isn't much steel for mounting behind the grill and I don't want them bouncing around like they would if mounted to the plastic parts. Has anyone added auxiliary lights to their Expedition other than a light bar?

You could always mount a bull bar and attach the lights to that.

Bullbar, in place of tow hooks, on top on the rails

Switchbacks with projector LEDs in turn signal/running lights, projector headlights, powerful LED bulbs or LED projector units in the foglights etc

Appreciate the input guys. I was hoping to avoid the extra $100+ to add a bull bar but there really doesn't seem to be much of a choice.

entmark. I had thought about mounting behind the grill but wasn't sure that enough light would get out. If it works for you then I'm going to try it. Putting my brain in gear, these thing put out enough light to over run any blockage I reckon. Thanks for the smack upside the head.

Is there metal, or sturdy enough plastic for the mount in there? Or did you modify it another way?

Nope just drilled holes from the top if I remember, under the plastic beauty trim. and to be honest I would redo it with a bar that took up more of the slot, I think I measured it close to 30”?!

Depending on your state laws, it can only be used with high beams as driving lights here in California so wiring was a snap I just tapped into my high beam wire at the drivers head light

Did you mount it towards the front or closer to the radiator? Reason I ask is it seems the center bracket for the grill gets in the way of mounting it close to the front of the opening. Just curious as to how you set it up.

In my humble opinion
All bull bars do is make sure any small collisions create maximum damage

There is a plastic beauty plate covering the gap I took that off and I bolted into something underneath I might be able to look later when I get home

No need. I know that piece. (Changed my grill earlier this year). I'll set it back far enough to clear that center bracket. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.

Which is kinda useful if you bump into fences, grocery carts, or "no parking whatsoever" signs

Damage done is almost never to the object rather the bull bar bending back into the soft molding and plastic facia of the vehicle. At best they are mounting positions for lights. Google around I’m not the only person with this conclusion. A real bull bar that is actually designed to toss cattle is insanely heavy. If you can lift a bumper off the ground with one arm I would question the products ability to protect your vehicle.

Most bumpers today are lightweight. I can lift the entire front bumper of my 2000 explorer with one hand. Of course that makes it a lot easier to get on and off to. [emoji16]
