2003 XLT. Button on liftgate no longer unlatches liftgate window. No problem, I just use the button on the keyfob if I need to do that. Unfortunately I also have factory remote start, so I have to leave an original keyfob in glove box. Not too bad.

Few years ago the manual liftgate handle stopped working. I lived with it for a few months figuring I'd eventually need to fix it. One day I put garbage cans in the back and said "wait, I thought that didnt work ... guess it does now".

OOPs! Response was related to the side door, not the "BACK DOOR".

There are 2 cables that run from the door handle to the latches. The plastic ends of these cables wear out and break making the cables useless. This happened several years ago on my 2000 Expedition. At the time I checked with Ford but the price was over $60 per cable. I found replacements on eBay for half that price. I bought them and they have held up so far. You can also find new metal ends that attach to the old cables to make them work. I don't know how well they do the job. I did check the local junk yard but all the cables I found were already broken or at least cracked.
