I just bought a 2010 Expedition XLT yesterday and noticed it wasn't beeping as I backed up close to something. I scrolled through the menu on the dash and couldn't find an option for it. My 03 has them and much easier to scroll through options, system checks etc. on it. Just didn't think this feature was optional on the big SUVs.

It is optional

My '09 Expedition Fleet model doesn't even have backup camera OR sensors

Does yours not have anything, or just not beep and only show video/radar? If youre not sure whether you got sensors, check the rear bumper for little dime-sized circle thingies mounted in a horizontal line at regular intervals ---- no circles, no sensors

My limited has no circles but has backup sensors. They are just not exposed in my model/year

Check the message center with the car in reverse. Of it has them it should show you an option to enable or disable there

Yeah I put it in reverse and had my wife walk behind it and nothing. I thought maybe they change the sensors from the dime sized one's in the bumper and made a cleaner look perhaps. No option to select backup aid like my wife's 03. I dont have leather seats, moonroof, or premium sound so there must not be backup aid on this one. She is clean though with only 75k miles on her. A very Immaculate vehicle inside and out.

No none of those options. I've already found a Kenwood unit that has a backup camera output that I'm going to get to make sure I don't ruin my bumper and get into any trouble. Thanks guys for letting me know it was optional. Ford doesn't make sense sometimes for the options they provide. That should be standard for all big SUVs but its ok because I'm pretty meticulous about my vehicles and make sure I stay put of harm's way. I'm just glad I dodged a GMC because I found out this year model has performance options available and I don't have to deal with the spark plug horrors prior to 2009.

If you don't see the four round sensors on the bumper cover then you don't have the backup sensors on your model. XLT is the entry level model so it is pretty much stripped down, you have to go to the Eddie Bauer, Limited, King Ranch, etc. to get goodies as standard.

Yes, and even that depends on year. My 08 expedition Eddie Bauer doesn't have any sort of backup assist...

I have backup assist but no exposed sensors. If I look up and under they are there but do not protrude through the bumper. All the other limited's I see around here are the same but other models have them exposed. Not sure why the difference but I also found a vin sticker when I removed the bumper cover so I can confirm it's oem

Not that this really helps the OP but my '07 XLT had the back up aid and no visible sensors on the bumper fascia. Part of Option 50C (Convenience Package) that also had the power adjustable pedals, garage door opener in the visor, and the power rear vent quarter windows.

There's a way to see the vehicle's window sticker by entering the VIN. Someone is sure to post the link.

Did you have the option to turn the backup aid on and off in the dash menu even though yours aren't visible? I don't have the option at all which leaves me to believe it isn't equipped with it. I tried that website and I could only pull up the engine and color for my Expedition.

You have to register a free account as an independent repair shop for it to give you the as-built data.

If you PM your VIN I will print the as built data for you if that helps.

This may not be helpful at all, but on my ‘15 Limited EL I do indeed have the option to turn off the forward parking assist sensors and the backup sensors too. It shows up on the dash when they are activated. I think you can also drill down in the menu and disable them too.

On another note, can anyone tell me what upgrade options I’m missing besides headrest DVD players and king ranch stuff?

My 2015 EL Limited has:
1. Sunroof
2. Sony Surround 12 speaker
3. Power running boards
4. Leather and power seats
5. Heat and A/C front seats and heaters second row captains.
6. Forward parking assist and rear parking assist and cross traffic alert and backup camera
7. Power folding mirrors with blind spot monitoring.
8. Projector headlamps and led fogs.
9. Heavy duty tow package with both wiring plugs and class 4 hitch and in dash brake controller.
10. Power fold third row
11. Power adjusting pedals and power telescoping steering wheel.
12. Rain sensing wipers
13. Satellite radio

I’m wondering what I’m missing that I would have gotten if I had purchased a Platinum??

Essentially the CCD Suspension
OR the load leveling rear suspension without CCD
