How hard is it to change out the spark plugs on a 5.4 triton? Does anyone have a how to for it? I'm not idling rough just yet, but plan on changing them soon because I know my expedition is going to need it

HA!!! have funn!!! you can do it, but its an all day project. you kind of have to remove everything out of the way first. intake, all plastic covers and anything that can be just disconnected with out screwing anything up. i mean like pulled off its tab, but that can put back on. that will help so you can move them around to get to the coils. i've never done it. i took it in. cost less than $300 i think. i dont remember though. so dont take my word on it.

ok ill look for you dont listen to panda he is a :dancingpoop: i did mine in two hours and look in my albums and you can see what i came across in my random folder. its actually not bad at all just use a 7mm socket for the cops and unbolt the fuel rail just kinda have it wobble a lil dont pull it off no need to. if it moves slightly it will help alot let me try and find the thread i used. but make sure you have several different size 3/8 extensions... actually i only needed a 3" and a 6" i think. im gonna go look for the thread for you

go ahead and remove power stearing remote reservoir and the bracket it mounts too its easy and does help. if you have stuff built up around your sparkplug like i did then use a metal coat hanger to break it up. it was teadious but it went fairly quick. i did use some purple power degreaser to help break it up also it not that bad when it comes time to do it use motorcraft spark plugs and tq to spec. do not use antiseize it will throw off your tq and you will have problems. our plugs blow out when not properly tqed. unlike the 3v guys haha

what everyone has said has been good advise... i would also add that I did not have to remove my fuel rail... and have a shop-vac handy to clean the holes while your changing plugs to minimize dirt falling into the holes... also I use autolite double platinums and its been almost a year with no problems

Did mine about 2 months ago. Not hard as long as you have some patience and work smart. I tossed the motorcrafts out and went with E3 plugs. No problems at all since and gained an extra 2 mpg. and thats mpg calculated with pen and paper. not on the display.

i stuck with the motorcraft just because of the problems this truck has but i have always wanted to try those e3 plugs. you are really getting an extra 2 mpg? with nothing else done. how bad where the plugs you replaced?
