Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your helpful comments and advice. I have researched online, but I find that the practical and experiential advice is much better here (and I don't have to worry about talking to non-human AI).
hyattdj - I am in Northern Illinois where icy roads have become more common than snow :<( I am a pretty careful, safe driver -mainly driving around the area, but the roads traveled are rarely cleared well. I've driven my fave truck in the world - 2005 Excursion - and Chevy Subs for many years, so I am familiar with the handling, though this is my first Ford Expedition. I prefer the rougher or stiffer ride of a truck, not the fluffy smooth ride of some of the suvs like our Traverse. And road noise does not bother me as long as I can hear my music :<)
I prefer beefier looking tires, but safety comes first.
Glenn, fair enough, I will get some pictures to you a.s.a.p.
Thanks everyone!
Ah, an Excursion girl, I knew there was a reason I liked you. Expy won’t live up to Excursion, but those days of Super Duty SUVs are gone.Truck Trailer Car 2.jpeg

I have a gen4 Expy.... Mine came with the 22" option, and they were *AWFUL*, noisy, harsh riding, etc. I swapped the wheels for the 18's from a F150, and run 275/65R18 which is a MUCH better truck size tire. You can also run 265/70R18 or 275/70R18 on these rims which are classic truck sizes.

If I were here, you would know it !
Just a few more thoughts...

I recently found a listing for the Defenders in a LTX "Platinum: version, which seems to have a somewhat more aggressive tread pattern as well as the inside & outside band extending out further than the regular Defenders or other similar tires, with a 70k warranty rating, and they are only about $35 more per tire (for now at least). So after talking with 2 of my trusted tire shop guys, I think these are what I will putting on in the spring. See the attached pic.

@Left Coast Geek

I firmly believe that 22" tires have no place on an Expy or similar sized SUV, outside of the strip-cruiser/pimp-wagon lookers that some people seem to insist on making their Expy's into...bah humbug I say :)

@GlennSullivan

I heard a rumor somewhere that Ford was seriously considering bringing back the Excursion, maybe in '27, and even then in liimited qtys, so unfortunately that means the prices will be way beyond any then-current year Expy...:(

Suks cause I test drove an older one many years ago and really liked it, but unfortunately, it would have needed a new trans & rear end asap, so I ran away from it as fast as I could, even though the price was reasonable and was otherwise in pretty good shape overall, all things considered...
