Just bought a 2000 Expy - but with issues. L & R Brake lights not working (center light works) and L Front (DS) turn signal doesn't work. Changed bulbs in all three and replaced fuse for break lights. Research is telling me a couple of solutions. 1) Brake light switch and/or 2) Turn Signal switch. Since it doesn't appear to be isolated, wondered if any one else had similar problem and their solution - or if 1 & 2 is the right direction. Thanks in advance.

The brake light switch attached to the brake pedal is a common failure part that causes a no brake light issue when the third brake light still works. Had this on my 2000 expy also. Easy change, and not expensive. Cant say from personal experience on the turn signal switch, but from my reading, they have a common failure issue also.

you may also want to check fuse #13, 15 and 23 under dash other items that could be involved with your problem could be the hazard switch and the flasher relay. If you understand electrical wiring I could send you a copy of the electrical prints for that system

bedrvk46 - Yes I would, thank you. Just in case the brake light switch doesn't solve the problem. Many thanks!

GaExpedition-I pulled up a video on how to change it and picked up the brake light switch this evening. Have a feeling I'll need to change out the turn signal switch too to solve the turn signal issue. I turned on the hazard lights and had to jiggle the turn signal arm to get it to work. Fun. Got a good price on it so a couple of fixes aren't too bad. Thanks!

All - Thank you all for help! Determined that it is a loose connection in the connection to the Turn Signal switch. I got the cowling off, tilt all the way up. Everything worked. Tilted down. Nothing would work. Half-way - no break lights and no front left turn. Disconnected - reconnected everything and all is good! Did replace the break light switch first - but $20 part - no big deal.
Thanks again!

Yep, keep it handy. Its just a matter of time before it stops working. Glad to hear you got it fixed. Something else to keep an eye on if you have the 5.4L (if the intake manifold hasn't been replaced yet) is if you have a slow coolant leak you cant seem to find, take a flashlight and check all around the aluminum crossover pipe where it connects to the plastic intake manifold on both sides. If you catch it early, a new Dorman replacement is MUCH cheaper on amazon if you have time to wait a few days to get it. Here is the link I posted when I had trouble with mine so you can familiarize yourself with it. A google search on 5.4L intake manifold leak will yield even more info.

GaExpedition - please don't tell me that. I'm a switch-over from the "bowtie" and had that happen with my Impala. Finally have moved from the dark-side and joined the Ford's! :hands:

Sorry man. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didn't know about it.....like I didn't. So far, for what Ive had to do to mine, none have been a deal breaker for me. The manifold swap wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. These Expy's are great suv's. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if the price was right.
