Hey all,

Just registered and kicking myself in the ass for not finding this site sooner. It would have made a lot of things easier in the past. My most recent headache with my 2000 Expedition wasn't my fault at all. My sister went to the movies the other day. When it got out, the car was getting its Alpine deck taken out along with almost everything else that was in the vehicle. Thankfully she caught him in the act and he only got away with her hoodie (that he was wearing when she found him) and 60 bucks. Her friends jumped him the next day (because they noticed that he was STILL wearing her hoodie when they found him) and turned that scumbag in. Now here's my problem: When he was cutting out the Alpine, he cut all the wires on the plugin that was coming from the car past the wire harness that was going into the deck. I've looked all over and can only find the wire harness that plugs into what he cut out. I've included pictures of the car wire harness plugin and deck wire harness. I would like to buy a new car wire harness instead of trying to butt connect the remaining wire ends on that plugin. That doesn't sound fun to me. Thank you and I appreciate any help I can get on this!

You have a couple of options, fix the current connector or splice in a replacement connector from a donor vehicle.

If you look at the connector the name of the manufacturer may be cast into it in very small type. I sourced the electronic parts in the past from Mouser.com - expect to spend a few hours searching if your unable to narrow the search criteria. Each item in the search results has a data sheet that is a cad drawing of the item. Look at that for the size and other info.
Once you have located the connector then you are able to determine which special tool is required to remove the pins from the old connector. Then it is just the work of removing the old pins & wires, crimping new pins on and replacing them in the connector.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. That sounds like a nightmare. Think I'll just jerry-rig what I got with butt connectors and electrical tape. I live in a small town so we don't really have a car junk yard you can salvage parts from. But thanks for the info!

Don't take this personal, butt connectors are for quick and dirty "repairs". Better to solder and heat shrink each wire. It is a better connection, more professional and trouble free when done neatly.
