Check electronic limited slip differential error message that pops up on the speedometer. The message appears on the GPS stating to safe battery auto is powering down. Driving down highway 75 miles a hour and my expedition decides to power down to save the battery. Has anyone seen anything like this? stuck outon the road very concern to continue to drive. I stopped into ford showed them the pictures. Nothing in the log indicate issue. Alternator is good. Battery is good. First message was for the slip differential. next auto powers down to safe the battery while driving down the highway at 75 miles an hour plus we are towing our travel trailer. The battery is good.

What is the object on top in the first picture, with a wire hanging in front of the display screen?

Could some type of aftermarket electrical add-on be causing the issue?

If the travel trailer battery is hooked up to charge off of the vehicle, could it be overeloading the alternator? I would consider disconnecting it for the remainder of the trip.

The alternator tested out. High output JS Alternators, so not overloading; I loaded up the alternator and tested it at the store. All good. It seems to happen when the roads are a little rough, as we are currently in Flagstaff, AZ, and the fact is the car powers down with no hazard lights or anything. Then it would start up with not problem after the shudown. The message on the GPS display

If it's happening on rough roads maybe a loose connection or short somewhere?

You can keep dismissing peoples suggestions, or you can check things. Bottom line, you have a voltage issue. The the battery control module is sensing low voltage and telling other modules that aren't required to keep the vehicle running to shut down to conserve power. Examples are the ELSD, and the APIM/Sync. So either you have a bad Battery Control Module, or the more likely scenario, a loose connection somewhere. If you Alternator has been replaced, I would double check all the connections and make sure they were all connected and secure. Actually check them.

Also, a scan tool is your friend, pull codes, they might tell you a root cause.

Since the alternator checked OK, it is likely another component that is overloading the system. As Loki said, you will need to check other circuits.

For the eLSD, make sure first your tires are the same brand and size, and pressure is OK. If all is well, then I recommend changing the fluid. I can provide more information on this process if you are interested. It is very easy to do.

I don't think anything is wrong with the ELSD. It is a symptom of the bigger problem, a voltage drop. Something is telling modules to power down. The ELSD and APIM/Sync are not required to keep the vehicle going. The ELSD is an option, and therefore expendable to meet the voltage demand.

I keep looking thank you for the replies and tired and frustrated but continue the trip. I do have a lot of after market electrical stuff and was just disconnecting them to see if that solved the problem. It did not.
