So I never thought that center console plastic panel is colored with "crayola crayons".

Some of us (including me) , due to the recent era of living in COVID, have a habit of keeping Hand Sanitizer Gel in the car for occasional hand cleaning.

It happened recently that I cleaned my hands and a couple of droplets of the gel landed onto the center console cover.

When I wiped it off with the tissue, not with excessive force, it simply did cut the paint of the console and black plastic underneath was exposed.

I was kinda amazed at the build quality , or perhaps it is expected from the chemical composition of the gel itself.

Either ways, is there a suggested remedy for it , i know I have to accept to live with it, however :

1. Is there a cover mat available for center consoles like this (much like dashboard cover mats)
2. For an eventual possibility, can I know the part number of this cover for possible replacement now or in the future.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Well alcohol is abrasive. There are vinyl kits for under $50 that'll cover that spot and the rest of the center console.

Did you find a solution to this? Mine did the same thing and on the steering wheel.

So as I was able to find out the part number for this center console trim is JL1Z-78045A76 (with suffixes like CD, CC , FB not sure what the suffix means).

The steep price is the limiting factor for me to make a purchase decision.

Even if I do get it, would it be user replaceable at home without any damage to the rest of the trim fittings or it needs professional services.

Thanks.

I have a 2021 with the same chipping grey paint on the center console panel. Those links a couple of posts back for a vinyl overlay didn’t list ones for more recent models or is selling an entire interior trim kit. If I can’t find an overlay just for the shift panel, am considering taking the panel apart and dipping it. Will keep looking for solutions…

Check out a video i did here for another car i own. Concept is exactly the same and it happens on more vehicles these days than you would probably want to know about.

Basically, SEM Trim paint is the fix. Remove all the paint and then re-spray and re-install. You can also Vinyl wrap the center console trim too which is another way to fix it.

The SEM trim paint is absolutely amazing. It does come in silver and other colors. I ran into the exact same issue you did and ended up stripping the entire center console of the paint because it was all chipping off.
