I don't think $275 is outlandish. Freeway - $35/hr is a perk you get being on base: here in Ohio it's $79/hr

I love my BFG ATs but I wouldn't put them on my EL - it gets bad enough mileage already, besides we don't take this one off road.

If you're running on-road I'd just get a nice all season radial. The Dueler Revo's are good too but I got the BFGs for a couple bucks less.

A quick check on Autozone's site shows front pads for $89 for the good ones. Figure $90-$100 an hour for labor. And parts from Ford are usually more expensive. So that seems about right. Personally, I'd stay away from places like Firestone. Too many horror stories. At least out here.

I wouldn't put any "house brand" brakes on my big trucks - go OEM (Ford, Bendix, Raybestos, Wagner) Advance/Autozone/Oreiley's have cheaper pads that don't utilize friction material specifically formulated for a set vehicle - they use the same semi-metallic (or carbon or kevlar) friction matrix for pads that will fit an Expy and they'll change the backing plate and use the same formula on a Scion..... That's why OEM or name brands cost $75-150 versus their "gold series" for $29

Same deal if you need rotors - you get what you pay for

(it's easy to give advice when you're not the one paying for it though)

Sir, if you're at all mechanically inclined, you can do them yourselves.
Most places charge $10-25/rotor to mic and machine, if necessary, as carry ins.

Fronts pads generally go faster than the rear due to the weight shifting forward when you stop; how many miles since your last replacement, or is this the first?

Also agree on OEM pads; just don't skimp on some things. Comparatively, slide rail grease is slide rail grease IMHO.

Tires: I was able to get 76,000 out of the delivery Goodyear Wranglers, would not buy them personally, and am on the second set of Michelin LTX/MS2; using a 4-wheel rotation; backs-to-fronts; fronts-to-opposite rears; 30 psi up front/32 in the rear; higher if trailering.

I paid a lot less for mine from brakemotive76 on ebay.... ceramic pads with slotted cross drilled rotors... been over two years and they stop my 37s while towing my 17ft bowrider boat.... I also installed same brand on my dad's 07 grand cherokee and he's got no complaints either... a former member here had them on his expy with no problems but he was under the name KWT2000

It's for pads only on the front.

I have heard that those slotted rotors cause premature pad wear, is that true?

If you cannot do them yourself get some more quotes or find a friend that can do them cuz $275 just for pads only is redonkulous.

I put a set of Power Slot rotors on my buddies 01 status r/t years ago and he never had any complaints. I did just about all of the brake jobs on his car and there wasn't any premature wear on any of the brake components. Also the rotors themselves lasted a hell of alot longer than the duralasts that I was putting on my Concorde Lxi at the time.

Just make sure if you are going with a slotted or slotted & cross drilled rotor you are going with a good well known brand (Power Slot, Power Stop, Baer, SSBC etc). You get what you pay for and when it comes to stopping something as big as an Expedition you don't want no name ebay junk. I've seen drilled rotors that were built just to sell a ton of them cuz they looked cool that cracked b/c the holes were drilled too close together, and then come apart and basically turn into shrapnel.

Its not that I cannot do them myself, I use to do my Ranger's breaks its just I don't want to.

Anyways the dealership seems very reasonable after calling around. Dealership was $275, local shop A was $300 w/o new rotors, local shop B was $387.08 w/machining the rotors.

I feel more comfortable with the dealership in case something else happens.
