This is SO far out there its not even funny. I want to do a engine swap in the expy, not soon, not even this year, or probably next year... just got to thinking about it.

A few questions. Thermo please chime in. Here are my thinking options (just spit balling here)

A new 3v or 4v (whatever they have now) 5.4L like in the 2nd gens
5.0L HO built
351 SB Windsor
460CI
347 Stroker
Triton v10
Lightning 5.4L (with blower)
7.3L Diesel
6.3L Diesel?
6.0L Diesel

I also have no idea which of these would work with the tranny I have and my guess is none of them lol. So get on this thread and shoot down stuff that wont fit "with out major modification"

v-10 will fit, IMHO.

I would do a pissed Cummins, before I looked at a Ferd v-8.

there are some variants of the 6.leaker, where they are stroked, they stroke a 6.4 to 7.3, and a 6.0 to 6.9... I have a raging hard on to do the second.

Mileage? NPR or ******** 4 popper.

Power? ********, or maxipad... an LBZ needs to be on your list.

my dream motor! Lincoln navi 4v twin turbo! and the new motors are 3v. but the navi has a 4v 5.4 in it. DOHC! has 4 cams in the dam motor! so sick. saw one in a mustang before. had a hard on for 3 days thinking about it.

there is a guy on FTE that did a V10 swap in a '97 or '98 f-150. said it will fit with a body lift..but its tight.

honestly the easiest fit would be a navi DOHC 5.4 bolt in and swap the ECU bam your done.

Im not a fan of mismatching manufacturers, thats just me though.

Every manufacturer has their problems. The most common problem is injectors because it is pretty difficult to make them to withstand the 20-40,000 psi it takes to fire them.

If it were me i would do a 6L swap. These just plain make POWER! i have seen these beat most American sports cars with just an intake and ECU piggyback! Ive also seen them pull fully loaded semis in stock form!

These also have there problems! High Pressure Oil Pump and injectors are the most common! But upgrading injectors and changing to head studs is the cure (why ford or anyone would ever use TTY bolts in a diesel ill never figure out!).

I've though of a diesel in mine :drool2: not sure how much of a pain it would be. Not even sure the front end would handle all the weight and power.
It would be fun to try!!!:flamingdevil:

Back to my suggestions of a stroked 6.0 or 6.4 PSD... Givews it the cube designantion of an older Ferd dizzal, IDI or Early PSD.. will make people scratch their heads, when you say "I've got a 6.9 under that hood"

AND PROVEN power.. That is fun to drive. Of the modern diesels out there, I like a Duramax about as much as anything; Although, the 6.4 PSD is supposedly as much fun as a 6.leaker (6.0) and more problem free.

Drove home to paint or polish on three different trucks last year, an 03 Cummins, an 05 6.0 XL F250, and a 99 Cummins... Hands down the 6.0 was the most fun to get around town in... Period the end.
