The 6R80 will mate up with the 6.2L yes, that was the trans it was used with in F-150. I’d bet you can make it work however there will be complications. The 6.2L should be the current premium motor in the expedition IMO great strong motor.

They are accomplishing similiar numbers with the 3.5 ecoboost twin turbo. I'm sure you would need the computer from a 6.2 truck and probably have to make some wire harnesses to make everything plug in. The dash cluster is different in the pickups.

Good points there. The 6.2L has a lot more top end power than the 5.4 or 3.5 so it has a lot more pickup when you rev it out.

The big question besides what was recommended, is the engine longer or wider. Would clearance be an issue? Would be a nice update, you'd probably have to have it certified by consumers affairs, or highway patrol. That part could be easy, or a nightmare. Do your homework on the legal end too.

Should, but who knows. Maybe the radiator support is further forward or something. It's probably plug and play, on the size, but asking and measuring ahead would sure keep the alcohol consumption down so he can focus getting the 6.2 in. Come to think of it, a little extra fab work can be a good thing if our friends a drinking man. Even if he's not, he might be doing the swap, nothing wrong with that!

You need more than a few drinks to work on these trucks, a boxing bag near by would be extremely effective.

One of those rubber bounce back bozo the clown punchers would come in handy. A small office fridge loaded up with your fav brews, will be a must. 2014 was last year for the 6.2 for f150. Their hard to find used. Most ordered the 5.0 or the small 6 cylinder. Poor sales was probably why they dropped it. Is the 6.2 a good motor? Or are they plagued like so many 5.4's?

The 6.2 was available for the Harley Davidson edition F150'S and it was popular in fleet purchased super duty trucks, otherwise your only options were the 5.4 till the 5.0 took over and the EcoBoost

Alot of people I know say good things about the 6.2 but they're all super duty owners, I dont know anyone with a Harley Davidson F150 as I'm assuming they're tuned a tad bit more differently

The 6.2L was available as the premium engine in f-150 from 11-14’ in Lariat Limited, Lariat, FX4, Platinum, Harley Davidson, and Raptor trims. It is the current gasoline engine for Super Duty. In the F-150 it had different camshafts in the heads for more top end power. They are great motors and easily the most reliable motor ford currently produces.

I tried asking this question months ago, but seemed to fall on deaf ears. One thing that might be true for a swap
is that it actually may be slightly more compact that a
3 valve 5.4. That motor is bigger than an original 5.4
2 valve. I know, because I owned both and dealing with the exhaust manifold on my '05 is much harder than my
old '97. The heads are usually going to be wider once you start putting multi valve setups in them, with overhead
cams etc. That's one reason a Chevy LS motor is so popular, especially with swaps. Just look at YouTubes
where they have the Chevy sitting next to a modular
Ford, especially a DOHC Coyote. They went back to 2 valves
with the 6.2, so I'm guessing almost the same size as a 2 valve
5.4. But it makes awesome power without the spark plug and cam chain tensioner issues that plaque my '05 5.4, so, I would love to swap a 6.2 in my '05 too.

The later 5.4 engines 2004-2010 must have been designed by Lucifer. After teething problems with the early ones, especially the stupid missing thread on spark plugs, just to come out with worse not better design. I've been around motors longer than I care to remember, and when a huge company like Ford puts out a spark plug snapping, cam chain tensioner breaking, cam advancer failing motor, is beyond my comprehension. It kills me that new designs are tested and tested again, to make sure they last. How the hell do engines like a remake of a relatively sound one make it to market? On top of that, why isn't the teething problems corrected the first 6 months to 1 year? Not drag on for 5 years. Amazingly we keep buying them!

Plus One on that. My first year Expy WAS relatively
sound. Never had the spark plug issue because I
fitted them myself by hand first, with anti-seize.
Engines made in Romeo or Windsor differed slightly,
more threads in one of those heads than the other, so
another reason I might not of had the plug thread problem.
Got 250K out of that 5.4 before rust worm and transmission forced me to sell it.
So the natural transition would be to go to a new and improved version, my 3 Valve '05. Shame on me for not doing the research. Just turned 100K, so I've got to do the
dreaded spark plug change. Dreaded was never in the same sentence as spark plug change on any other vehicle that I've owned in 50 years, and that includes the '97 Expy. The cam chain rattle / wind up from a cold engine not getting oil pressure to the tensioners has been going on since at least 46K, and not all the time, so keeping my fingers crossed there. That 6.2 swap is looking better & better.

It's too bad the 6.2 was never offered as an option for the Expedition. All the issues that the 5.4 had, could have been alleviated. I'm sure that the bigger motors not without its problems, but none as bad as broken sparkplugs, or cam phasers/oil pumps that decide to go on vacation! Maybe more members will do the motor swap. A lot of work, but maybe that's the upgrade.
