Just traded my 5.0 F-150 for a 2018 Expedition with the 3.5. Is it normal to hear the sound of the exhaust inside? Obviously on my truck I was used to it. Guess I figured this would be really quiet, it’s not overwhelming just louder than expected. I thought maybe the previous owner had an aftermarket pipe installed.

Two possibilities (other than “yur trucks broke”):

1) Ford plays fake engine noise into the cabin to account for the sound of the EB being not what folks are used to if they haven’t driven a turbo before. Which leads me to...

2) you sure you’re not hearing the turbo? When I switched from my 5.0 F150 it took a while to get used to the turbo “air noise” in the cabin...sounds kinda like a “whooshing” on acceleration.

It doesn’t sound bad or like something is broken. Drives great. No lights on dash. Maybe I’m going crazy. Lol

I find it can drone a bit taking off. Has to do with the throttle position. I’d like to defeat the fake noise, but I’m not ready to get forscan yet. I barely heard my turbo until the door seal broke in and now I get a bit of air noise around it. Now I hear the turbo clearer when by an interstate median divider.

I ran by ford. They listened to it, looked at me like I was crazy and said it sounded normal.

When I first got my 2018, both my wife and I thought it absolutely roared. I'm kinda used to it now, but its fr from quiet.

I came from a Dodge Magnum with a LOUD Corsa exhaust and I expected this thing to be whisper quiet, but its not.

My '17 is so quiet (and smooth) at idle I inadvertently left it running until the door chime.

Ford use a resonator near the tail pipe. It takes the crackle and harshness out of the exhaust. Check if it's missing. I have read may post in this forum, of owners removing them. They either hate how they look or are trying to hot rod and tune it for more power.
