I finally got around to changing out my plugs on my truck today. The gap spec as per the emissions tag is .052-.056. Well the smallest gap was .058 and ranged up to .070  So the first 6 went pretty quick, the last 2( i don't even need to mention which side) were a PITA just to get at.

Once I got to them I noticed something strange... They were loose, they were threaded in but I was able to take them out with just the socket and extension. I was able to spin them by hand. I started to get worried that the holes were stripped by the last person to do them. All 6 prior plugs had clean threads, these had build up on the threads which doesn't surprise me since I'm sure they have been getting plenty of blow by since they weren't tight. I put some anti seize on the new plugs (motorcraft platinum) after I gaped them and then threaded them in by hand. Once they got tight I finished up with the ratchet and they were tight... crisis averted. I also noticed after that I no longer hear that sputter sound I was hearing on incline acceleration and it feels like there is substantial difference in power and acceleration.

I may tackle the Throttle body egr ports today when I wake up because I ran out of daylight today and my truck will not fit in my garage due to height. Now just to figure out why I stalled while backing into a parking spot the other day.:Frustrated:

you will need two gaskets for the throttle body one for mounting to the intake manifold and one for the egr valve
use throttle body cleaner

I bought the gaskets already a few weeks ago just haven't gotten around to doing the job yet. I think I bought all three gaskets for the tb. The one for the tb, spacer, and egr. I appreciate the heads up. I just wish I knew why it stalled. It hasn't thrown any codes.

from what I have heard the R. bank rear plugs commonly are loose or not changed by prior owners due to accessibility issues. Usually with loose plugs you end up damaging the threads due to the vibrations but sounds like you got lucky, good deal man. I have yet to do mine, Im a diesel mechanic and I took one look at the location and instantly started dreading the day I have to swap them out... They could have at least installed a doghouse.......

The best way I was able to get at them was to remove the fuse block that is over in that corner. I removed the wires and then unbolted it from the fire wall( not sure 02 5.4 is the same or not) then laid across the top of the engine so I could reach all the way back there and had someone hold a flashlight so I could see better. Still took some time but could not find a better way. Also had to unplug the injectors.

the 02 doesn't have the fuse block on the passenger side that was only on the 97 and 98 models
