Scout this a one year old post. But as to your question, no you should be able to swap in same Gem module, as long as options like power Windows, and assessories are same. Usually though the old Gem can be dried out with a hair dryer, or blown out with compressed air. What finally sealed mine, and stopped my gremlins was to pull plugs from gem, seal with die electric grease, and wrap a couple of plastic bags around Gem. Also seal windshield real well.
