Ford Lighting super charger upgrade?

Just wondering what the average cost of this upgrade is. I'm talking on a budget, with as much as possible with used parts.

Unfortunately the blower is a very small part of the complete installation. The price can vary significantly depending on the cost of your parts. If I had to give you a number I would say $2500-$3000 complete. I am sure it could be done for less but that would take some time finding deals on parts and/or luck. Occasionally you will find a wrecked lightning parting out and you can get a great deal on complete package. Usually have to jump on these as it is a fairly popular conversion and they go fast.

Here is a good write up boiler71 did of the swap.. I did not have to modify the throttle cable bracket or pulley bridge on mine as he did in his write up. That may be specific to the 2003 models?!

The Gen 1 Expys do not require the throttle cable bracket mod...the Gen IIs do. As for the cost, I did mine for around $2500 - $3000. Seems expensive I know but when you compare that to an aftermarket system ($4500+) with the upgradability (pulley swaps, tunes, etc) that the Lightning swaps offer, The Lightning swap is by far the better deal...IMHO.

only problem with yours is that its not cali legal... in cali you have to use the same year or newer engine. i know stupid cali laws.

I didn't swap the entire motor, just added the supercharger to my 2004 motor. Not familiar with laws in cali, but what I did should be no different than adding an aftermarket charger.

what are real world mpg numbers after having done the swap?

One would think when being driven.... C0nservatively.. <that might be the right word.. How many points did your mpg go UP after the swap?

(directed at anyone with a supercharged Triton)

I would keep track but my odometer has not been cooperating. Need to do the odometer repair. Seems it has been out more lately.

I would say 85% tops.

With regard to MPGs, we lost probably 2 MPG on the highway (15.5 MPG down to 13.5-14 MPG) and about the same in town (11.5 MPG down to 9.5-10 MPG).

Really depends how bad people piss you off on the road...that really determines the MPG.

About how much did you spend to do the swap? I'm considering this in my near future but not if it's too much money.

As I had stated before, I probably spent between $2500 and $3000. The great thing about this swap is that you can buy the parts over time instead of dropping all that money at once. We spent about 4-5 months buying everything for both our swaps (my wife's Expy and my F150).

Granted, that is a bunch of money, but dropping a little over time makes the purchase much more tolerable.
