Hi all. I have a 98. I believe I need a front end alignment, but could use your inputs. As I am driving it is shaking feels like the front end obviously. I was going to do that but then I took a trip and went through the Smoky mountains and found that as I was coming down the mountains and I would apply my brakes it shook so bad i felt like I was going to lose a front wheel. So now I am not sure if it is a front end alignment or not. It starts probably around 45 and the steering wheel moves and when I let it go it does go a little left, but not severely. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

if the truck is pulling one way or the other it could be the alignment your just going to have to check by letting go of the steering wheel on a level road to see if it pulls. The shaking under breaking seems to me like a warped rotor or caliper im sure others with more experience will chime in.

Jack up each side and try to move the wheel left or right and up and down. If there is any play in it you may have worn suspension parts like control arms or tie rods. If everything is tight, its most likely warped rotors. If they arent too old you can have them turned, or you can replace with new. I would use new pads also.

Brake rotors, alignment and/or wheel/tire balance issue. I'm going to say one, two or all three of those assuming your suspension is sound.

Well the shaking under braking definitely sounds like a warped rotor(s). As for the pulling/shaking issue it could be (as mentioned by others) a unbalanced tire, your alignment could have been thrown out of wack by hitting a big pothole/bump or maybe worn suspension parts.
