Just about on all of my vehicles I change the filter every 6000 to 7500 miles basicly after my 2nd spark plug and oil change. I just do it that often for a since of secruity, that and if something happens fuel related I can scratch that off my list. Cause its new

not much difference. i just do it when im like might as well. since its cheap. last time i did it was at 150k. i dont think it has ever been done before that. just letting you know. fuel will get EVERYWHERE!!! find a big clean bucket or bowl and save it. its like $2.34 you spill when you take it off. haha and yes exactly $2.34 is how much fuel you waste. :smokin:

I have done it every 30K miles as recommended in the manual. I can't say I have seen an increase in gas mileage or power when it is changed though.

Here's the rule of thumb. If you notice a difference after you changed the fuel filter, you waited too long to change the fuel filter.

I agree. You should not notice a difference when you change it. I do it once a year.

I was running with a CEL for months and the auto shop I took it to charged me $350 for a MAF sensor and then when it came back on they tried charging me another $450-500 for a manifold gasket... So I finally remembered I have never changed the filter and the owner before probably didn't either so I changed it and then ran sea foam cleaner through my tank and now it's been 125 miles and no more CEL. So... Yes... You could notice a difference in your wallet. In the past I have typically done it every other oil change.. It's only $10-15.

FYI... Watch your face when doing it. The line will pop off when you least expect it. For me it did and I got gas in my eyes and ear. The ear hurt worse. It felt like I got punched in the ear and hurt for about 4 hours. But it goes away by itself eventually.

I noticed an increase in MPGs when I changed it on my 7.3IDI...mainly because my old filter was leaking like a sieve... I think the ground was getting more diesel fuel than the motor haha

I haven't changed it on my Exped but will soon as Im sure the PO has no idea what a FF even is...

Is this something that can easily be done on your own or should I just have it done somewhere. I've been wanting to change mine for a while now but am not sure how to go about doing it

Easily done on your own. My 14 y/o daughter helped me with mine, just to have some dad time. The filter was $6 or $7 at Autozone and the tool was about the same. Pull the fuse for the fuel pump, disconnect the lines going to and from the filter and snap in the new one. Took me ten minutes the first time I did it. You may have to play with the tool a little to get it to release the clamps. That took up most of the time doing mine, lol.

Thanks for the advice, I will try it soon. My main concern was if the lines would be pressurized and I'd end up with gas shooting all over the place. I know for a fact the filter hasn't been changed in the past 30k I've been driving the truck and I highly doubt my dad changed it much when he had it before me
