old fuel pump out, ordered a new one from Rock Auto, theirs is 13-14 inches and is too long. the original I took out is 11-12 inches. where do I find one the right size?

Gerald... I dont know the answer to your question, but if you put a little more info up: like year, model, engine size, maybe the part # from rock auto, some of these old dogs on here may be able to direct you.
Just saying your new fuel pump aint right might not give them enough to go on. Good Luck.

and I'd say first step is to call Rock Auto, gonna need to return it anyway and they must have the right one to send for replacement

You need to check for 4WD or 2WD also Standard Suspension or Auto Adjustable Suspension

If it's only the pump look to see if you can take the old pump off and put the new pump and strainer on the old hanger.

I like Tony's idea best, but be sure you can swap out pump without damaging anything. Barring that, yeah looks like you have to narrow down the parameters, like others said Year, model, 2 or 4 wheel drive. How many gallon tank. I sold parts for years for Oreillys, and with all the pertinent info, you narrow down the part. Push come to shove you might have to pay a little more, and buy it locally, and return the old one.
