FYI - 2015 Ford Expedition to get 3.5 liter EcoBoost V-6

Post updated to reflect recent product changes. The refreshed 2015 Expedition will not be getting the 5.0 Coyote V-8. Instead it will get the 3.5 EcoBoost V-6.

Hopefully Ford will resolve any paint defects, if not, the F-150 will suffer the same. Both vehicles will use more aluminium for body panels - doors, fenders, etc.

The 3.5 liter EcoBoost V-6 is going to the Lincoln Navigator. No more V-8 power for the Navigator. Lincoln will offer its SUV with a duo of V-6 engines.

Only the Expedition will get a V-8.

It’s definitely getting the 5.0.

So far the engine line-up looks like this:

2015 Expedition – 5.0 Ti-VCT V-8

2015 Navigator - 3.5 EcoBoost V-6

The 3.7 Ti-VCT V-6 is being mulled over as an entry level motor for both SUVs.

EcoBoost in the Navigator? Seems like that could hurt sales, not help them! Personally, I would think that the EcoBoost would sell better in the Expedition.

But then again, everyone I know with the EcoBoost in an F150 wishes they had gotten the V8!

Ford has confirmed the next Expedition will get the 5.0 liter 32-valve Ti-VCT V-8 engine. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also in the works, though the SUV is expected to launch with the current 6-speed automatic transmission.

It will stay body-on-frame (BOF) and is expected to use more aluminium in its construction to lighten weight.

The 3.7 liter 32-valve Ti-VCT V-6 engine could be offered as the standard entry-level engine, making the 5.0 liter V-8 a premium option.

Will post more info as it becomes available...

Awesome!!

That should give it a healthy bump in performance with better fuel milage as well.

The 5.0 also responds well to mods!!! :flamingdevil:

Soccer moms don't want diesels!! :hidesbehindsofa:

I would have to disagree. I see plenty of women(including soccer moms) driving diesel powered trucks. I think if you tell tell them they are going to get 25+ mpg's, they would buy them.

Don't tell me. Tell Ford. :p

Was just stating an Expy stereotype. :)

Ford’s global director, Matt VanDyke, confirmed the week before last, that the Lincoln Navigator would get the EcoBoost V-6, while the Expedition will hang onto V-8 power.

That’s more likely to further separate the two vehicles (they are also expected to differ more in appearance too) and because of the fact that more owners tow with the Expedition than the Navigator.

The Expedition will keep the more heavy-duty V-8 which can endure prolonged towing. A diesel engine is possible, but for now, has not been discussed in any near plans.

Not ungrateful, just disappointed no diesel option. Also, what about a hybrid model?

I'm not sure why anyone has not done a hybrid diesel it seems to make the most sense. Electric for city and Diesel for hwy. should get huge MPG and still tow a house.
