not complaining since i only drive 2 miles each way to work but my 2004 exp 5.4 says i am only getting 11 MPG my 2001 expy 5.4 used to get around 18 mpg. i just changed the plugs and replaced 1 coil pack, is this normal for the 04s or is something going on with mine?

are you computing your mileage based on refilling gallons to fill her, and miles driven?
those "lie-o-meters" will get you most times.

If you have the message center, set it to MPGs and then press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds or until it resets to 0.0 then it will give you an accurate picture of your mileage at that moment. It may take a little bit of time for it to settle down. It works better when you are on the highway on cruise but it works around town too.

My '05 shows 11.2 when I'm driving around town. I've decided to stop looking at it and just enjoy driving the truck.

How many times did you check each vehicle? I don't see how you possibly got 18 unless you had the 4.6l and even then it's high.

panhandler im computing using gallons and miles. I dont have one of the "lie-o-meters". Metaldrgn i have the 5.4l and was getting 18mpg regularly. i would check it every time i took a trip. After every time i filled up. But as freeway says i have an intake, cat back exhaust, and a tuner. But i was getting 18 before the tuner.

I'm still a fresh owner and am on my first tank of gas, but the lie-o-meter tells me I've averaged ~12.8mpg. Not too bad since I only drive it maybe twice a week. I will be calculating actual mpg from miles driven vs gallons filled when I fill up, just to check the car's accuracy.

That is really good gas milage for an expedition. Is that mainly highway driving or driving with little stopping? I was getting almost highway or better MPG with all my cars where I lived prior becuase I didn't have many stops. My '98 only got about 13-14 (worst of all my suvs), but that is without mods. I haven't figured it out what it is for my '03 expy yet.

Yeah i don't hardly ever drive highway, mostly back roads to work. I will fill it and calculate it that way, just seems like my gas gauge moves fast lol thanks to everyone who commented. I had a throttle body spacer and a k&n cold air intake on my older expedition, maybe that made the difference

Right now I'm getting 11.2 MPG or about 21L / 100km

Not sure why, new spark plugs, fuel injectors, new short block (fuel injector stuck open reeked havoc on vehicle), new cat convertors, new pipes from engine (or whatever) to cat convertors, new tires, new air filter, new brakes....

It was actually getting better fuel economy, around 17-18 L/100 km or 13.5+/- MPG prior to the stuck fuel injector and the mass update. Not sure what else could be going on that would need looked at.

i am getting 11` mpg, my new thought is that maybe my front wheel hubs are not disengaging and is causing drag?

11MPG definitely seems low for highway but if you are only driving 2 miles stop and go it is probably about right. We have an 05 Expedition 5.4l which is the 24v engine obviously, but we get 19-20MPG highway (70MPH on cruise) but only 12MPG city.

does anyone with the throttle body spacer and cold air intake see an improvement with gas mileage?
