Gear Lube

I’m changing my rear end fluid. The manual call for 75w-85w. That stuff at the dealer is $38 a quart. Any harm in using 75w-90w instead?

Make sure you are filling it with synthetic gear lube, the stock fluid is synthetic hypoid gear lube. Will be around $30 per quart no matter which brand you use.

Also if you have eLSD, the workshop manual shows that you need friction modifier.

75W-85 and 75W-90 are so close in viscosity they're probably the same oil in different bottles. Hypoid gear oil is "special" but common -- read the label. GL5 is hypoid gear oil.

75W-85 viscosity is very common.

I am working through the rear diff, trans pan drop fluid/filter, and front diff on my F150 now and RA is where I found best prices even with shipping.
