CDNRabbit,
What foam did you use to quiet the trim piece? I too have that rattle and would like to quiet it. Can you provide what you used and how you fixed it? Thanks!
It was something from DuPont Krytox not sure which one Ford specifies. It lasted about a year. Now just to convince my dealer to reapply yearly at no charge.

"On the plus side the foam I added between the plastic trim and the sunroof frame quieted at least one rattle"

CDNRabbit, i was actually referring to the foam you said you added. Trh krytox is for lubrication, I get that, I have the plastic cross piece rattle. What foam did you use and how does that piece come off?

Just some adhesive weather stripping from HD on top of the factory installed foam.

What the hell is up with Ford and the various rattles? From Cam phaser rattle to turbo wastegate rattle to sunroof rattle & A-pillar rattle etc. This is ridiculous.

This has been indicative of Ford as long as I have been driving (30 years). Every Ford I have ever has had a rattle somewhere - the engine, the windows, the headliner, the sunroof, the dashboard, etc. When I got my first Ford it drove me crazy as my 2 prior Japanese cars had had zero rattles. I got used to it pretty quickly though and now I just unconsciously tune the noises out.

My 2023 that I got in Dec 2022 started the roof knocking stuff and would knock over nearly every bump. I tried various lubes but they would last only a week or so. I did TSB 19-2374 for model year 2019’s (expensive lube) and more then a month later and not a peep. I could not understand how lube would fix knocks but it did.

Where did you apply this lube, like, exactly where, because it seems like I will have to deal with this myself. Now my car spent 21 days at the dealership, where they disassembled and assembled the thing two or three times, found out that nothing is broken, then performed a field test just to have the rattle start again on them. The third time, obviously with me urging them to give me the ride back, they assembled and drove back the car to me (about 150 miles) no rattle, I used it for two or three days, no rattle, then drove it to the city which is about 150 miles away and boom, it came back dancing and jumping. Now they want me to drive back to the dealership, 150 miles away from home, go on a field test with their mechanic and show them "exactly which rattle I am hearing" because after they had the car for three weeks because they couldn't get rid of the noise, now magically they think the noise comes from inside my head, and my wives head, and my childrens heads, and from inside the head of every person that gets in my car and gives me the "dude you got scammed, a car that sounds like that with only 21K miles is a *************" look. So, if anyone can help me get rid of the noise by myself, I will be forever in your debt.

Fine dust working into the rubber foam gasket on the edge of the sun roof. Tip it up use armor all and rag to
Wipe the gasket down. Then lower and open it and wipe the metal surface where the gasket touches.
Fine dust and that foam/rubber basically squeaks/chatters with movement

I am so glad this topic has been brought up. We got our ‘22 XLT in August 2022 and I’ve been searching for a solution since then but didn’t want to bring it back because I knew the dealership wouldn’t find anything.

So what makes that lubricant different than a less expensive one?

Also, does anyones rattling go away when you just vent the glass, and not have it fully open? Mine is only there if the glass is closed, regardless if the cover is open or closed.

@js1990 I almost always pop the sunroof to make the rattle stop. All the rattles are driving me crazy.
Yeah, I know. It’s ridiculous. For a $70k+ vehicle you’d think the quality would be a little better.
I was able to fix the passenger side roof handle rattle. Now I’m dealing with the sunroof and driver side window rattle.
Hopefully the grease that I ordered will fix it. I was able to get it off eBay for $60

Hi all. I had an issue with my 2021 Expedition Max Platinum (w/ pano-sunroof), where I'd hear a rattle/hit (not sure how to describe it), every single time I'd hit the slightest bump, including a small crack on the road. I took it to the dealership and they verified my concern and had it for the three days until I finally got it back. Here's the service report:

Thats awesome that the tech actually looked into and tried to find the issue (and fixed it) rather than the normal Ford tech diagnosis as "normal rattle"

Update in the Vista roof soap opera. After the car spent a while in the main branch of the dealer, and lasted noiseless for about 12 hours (clock hours not use hours), they agreed to order the parts, it has been abput 130 days since they announced that (they said it´d take them anytime between 25 and 45 days). The week of november 25th was their latest tentative date, so I am still waiting. I applied the weather striping foam right behind the factory foam and it really quiets down the noises. I have seen that the factory weather strip is not vertical enough and that is fails to fulfill one of it´s functions, to keep the sunroof from wobbling wit every road imperfection, so, this is a common problem with our Expeditions, not due to failing parts, or misasembling, but just to a poor design that should´ve been corrected since 2019.

In another turn of events, nos I am on 26,000 miles, and a new devil has shown it´s ugly face, or voice. About three or four weeks ago, a little squeek coming from the tailgate/rear trim/toolbox/whoknowswhere, started, it sounded like rubbing two pieces of wet rubber together, in every little bump, I took the car for 25K mile service and the noise "did not reproduce". Now the possesion is full blown, head twisting, green vomiting, tongue speaking and all, and riding this $85,000 vehicle with 26K miles is a real nightmare. I have thaught about selling it, but will loose major money, hell, I have felt so frustrated about it and about the almost inexistent knowledge on their product that the dealer shows, that, sold my 2012 Raptor that was due, and cancelled all the plans to get an F150, and will instead go to a Silverado ZR2 to try my luck.

I´ll try to upload an .mp3 of the new devilish sound so if anyone has any ideas, please share, because as usual, the dealership has no clue.

So rhythmic... sounds like my old dorm bed ;)

Have you had someone else drive whilst you climb around the back trying figure out where the two little mice are humping?

Yes, my wife drove while I was in the back pushing on the side trim, roof panel, tailgate trim, to stabilize it and see if the humping stopped, and also putting my ear to spy mode to find out where it is actually generating from and nope, can't find it. I can only say that it vomes from center to right, so I removed the tool box and the trim of the tailgate and all right side all the way to the 2nd row, and drove and the humping was louder, tried to move things around (there is a large AC unit there in the right side) but couldn't make anything sound. Drove with the tailgate open in a bumpy back road and the noise produced, so I deduced it is not coming from the door. In the end, I have no idea what is causing this.

Regardless of cost, it's still a Ford. Every Ford I have ever owned has had all sorts of squeaks, creaks, rattles, etc. Even if you stop one, another will crop up. Tune it out, trade it in or drive yourself mad chasing gremlins. :p
