Has anyone installed a real oil pressure aftermarket gauge for the 5.4 ?

As many know the oil gauge is just an idiot light in disguise. I plan to install one on my 5.4 when the parts come in and do a write up with pictures but I was wondering what others have done in if anything.

It's been on my to-do list for a long time, but after much painstaking research I was unable to find an adapter that didn't have a ton of complaints regarding leaks. If you find one, let us know.

There is a local M14.5 x 1/8" NPT reducer with a crush gasket for $6 on Ebay right now among others from China that goes between the engine and an electrical sending unit or crush sleeve fitting for the mechanical type gauge with nylon line. Along with thread tape it should be fine or even without it.

Right. But I’m sure there’s something out there that fits. All those guys building Mustang motors....... what are they using?

Send a link if you find one. I just looked at one that listed 2,750 vehicles and there wasn't a 5.4 in there. I am going to install a gauge in 2 or 3 weeks where the oil sender switch is and show pictures.

They list one for the Superduty, F-150, and Mustang but not any Expeditions, Explorers or Navigators.

No, no they don’t. But if you cross reference the tech specs on the adapter NobodySpecial posted with the tech specs of the Motorcraft FL820S oil filter, you’ll see that it works.

It might fit the threads of that filter but they don't list any Expeditions in their brochure and I looked at 2,700 vehicles in one ad but no Expys in there. Send a link if you see one but I sent an email to Glowshift and we will see if they are at work right now to answer it. Maybe no room for anything around it ?????????

Guess you’re screwed then. NobodySpecial used one on his 2007 F150, but that’s an F150. Sure the F150 and Expedition share the exact same engine, but one is put in an F150 and the other goes in an Expedition.

Not totally screwed because I am going to tap into port where the sender switch goes in a couple weeks.

That one in the link I sent you is the one I used. As stated above, it fits the FL-820s filter. The filter stud on the block on your Navigator is the same as an F-150. Unless there are clearance issues on your particular vehicle that I am not aware of. The adapter spaces the filter out away from the block about an inch and a half.

Looks like there is some kind of issue because nobody lists one for the Expedition. I did see one for late nineties to 2002 though. I will call Glowshift on Monday and I sent then an email also. I realize the filter fits on the sandwich by itself, and I think it is the 22mm filter stud/nipple.

5.4L 3V engines are the same regardless if they are mounted in an F150, Expedition, F250 or whatever else. Everything around the oil filter will be the same. The fact that they don’t list Expedition is because they are lazy.

There is one sandwich for the Expy sold in China but I emailed 12 sellers of it and they all know nothing about the fact that the Expy filter hole is 22mm and theirs is 20. One of the 12 sellers said no it won't fit even though their ad listed the 2007 & up Expy. Waiting for Glowshift to answer but not holding my breath.

I looked up f-150 sandwiches in ebay and there are 50 people selling the same one but they all have the 20mm filter thread and the Expy filters are all 22mm. So no...…...
