Hey Guys!

I am new to the forum. I had a question for all of you out there. I am looking into picking up a 2005 Limited model with about 133K miles. The asking price is about 9K. The question I had for you all is if this is too many miles? My normal driving is about 10 miles per day and occasionally a longer commute. The reason i wanted to get this truck is for camping and other off roading expeditions.

Since i am new to the Expedition world, would you guys still recommend this with 133K miles? I mean it is a Ford so it should last me another 100K with proper maintenance?

Any issues or comments?

Thanks!
Kyle

First off, welcome to the forum Kyle. Glad you found the place.

Hey Guys!

I should think so. There are a great many people with trucks that have a whole lot more mileage than that.

I would recommend having someone give it a good look over (inspection), and if it checks out you will be good to go.

I've got the same number of miles on my 97 and it's still solid. It does need a few minor maintenance items, but I have no concerns about it.

Whether that price is fair for that truck, I can't comment. That kind of thing tends to vary by region, but I believe that would be close to blue book value for a 4x4.

I would also say that should be ok as long as it checks out. All depends on how it was cared for. Mine has 217k on original power train and she still runs just fine. I will say that if you plan on taking it off road, you might want to look into a small lift. I know my dad's 04 sits way lower to the ground than my 97. Reason being these older trucks were prone to rolling, so they lowered them with the redesign.

This is the first I've heard of that.

Sounds like a case of PBSASW rather than truck design.

It's a little of both, but I know at least 1 person who has rolled a 1st gen expy and have heard of several other cases. The killer is getting sideways in the snow by accident and hitting a dry patch of pavement next.

Not sure where you are from (you certainly aren't behind my couch haha) but I just speak from experience. I see no other reason other than to make it easier to get into that they would have lowered the 2nd gens.

EDIT: I should be clear that the 2nd gens are not actually lower than the 1st gens from an overall height perspective, there is just less clearance between the ground and the truck, thereby lowering the center of gravity. But that is also why I recommend a small lift. I would never wheel my dad's truck stock.

it is ok...i have an 2004 and i have about that many...i take care of my truck with regular oil changes and other maintenance needed and only foresee this truck lasting another 200k miles...find out if the 100k mile service has been done...if not get it done...change all fluids...check the ball joints...uppers should be ready to be changed...other than that TLC and it will definitely last another 100K miles...

About how much for the 100K service? Could be a negotiating tool. Also how much for the upper replacement so I know what I am getting myself into?

Thanks!

Yes a lift is definitely in the future.

Thanks!

if you have them do everything about $700-$800...and about $600 to do the ball joints...thats the estimate i got for the lower...not sure how much if they do the upper alone or how much combined...
