SO i want to let the vehicle stay running to keep ac going and all the coldness that brings while i run into the store.
If i take the key and walk away and try to lock it, it locks but then unlocks and beeps.
is there a way to leave it running and lock the vehicle? without doing the remote start procedure, which shuts off in 15 minutes.

HOW long do you want the engine running?! More than 15 minutes it seems. Remote start will run the engine for up to 35 minutes (in my '17). Remote start, i.e. Lock and press Remote start twice. Repeat to add 10 minutes. Repeat to add another 10 minutes. 15 + 10 + 10 = 35 minutes. Every additional remote start while the engine is running adds 10 minutes up to a maximum of 35.

Or, as noted while I was typing this. :) Exit the car with the engine running and lock it with the 7/8 and 9/10 keys on the door pad. It's running. And it's locked. Pres your keypad code to get back in. Can someone smash a window and drive off? Of course -- and they'll have a nice cool drive.

if you have 2 keys just leave it running and when you get out lock it with the other key. I have done that many times
That's kinda what I do, though my key fob is separate from the actual key so I keep the fob on me when I leave it running and just lock it. But also as mentioned before a remote start is programmable to run for long periods if needed, mine is set at 23 minutes... that way it's not just toasty inside but the snow melts off the windows by the time it shuts off again

I don't think there is a safe/secure way to do what you want. As others have stated you can leave your key in the truck and use the keypad but that's not necessarily secure. What I do is shut it off and go inside. Then, when I'm within a few minutes from coming back out again, I use Remote Start to get it going again. The A/C comes on and starts cooling down the interior. I noticed my cooled seats do not activate when I do this. But, I'm guessing that in the Winter the heated seats will be turned on provided you A) have heated seats and B) set them to Auto in the Remote Start section of Vehicle options.

I use the keypad on drivers door to lock and unlock while engine is running. Keys stay in truck.

While this works, it affords anyone who punches a single random button on the drivers door a free entry to your vehicle complete with key!!

If my fob is in my pocket or on the console, any button pressed on the keypad will open the drivers door....

It is a waste of gas to leave it idling for more than a few minutes. Not sure how good it is for the engine either. I would follow start-art's advice.

I have to punch in my entire code. Do you have a proximity key? My '13 doesn't.

I agree with jkayca too. Maybe I misunderstood. I use the key pad if I'll be less than 5 minutes. Otherwise I turn it off.

Ditto for me.

I need the PIN, not just a single "random" button on both my '07 and '17.

I remote started my '17 this afternoon and did two quick RE-remote starts (as I described above) and the truck idled with the AC running for at least 35 minutes.

A little clarity on Chucks remote start duration post.

If your remote start one cycle time is set to 15, each additional cycle adds 15. If it is set to 5 it adds 5.

The issue is the maximum run time cannot exceed 35. That means you can do 6 extends if your run time is set at 5, or 2 if set to 15, but the 2nd extend only adds an additional 5, because the total cannot exceed 35.

On my 2008 with the added-on Ford remote start, you can keep the engine running and remove the key. If someone jumps in and steps on the brake without putting in the key, the car turns off.

To operate it, you press the remote start fob while the car's running with your foot off the brake. The parking lights will come on. You remove the key and you can get out and lock the door. The car will remain running. Not sure if it times out if you don't come back.

From the 2017 Owners Manual (my only source):
Extending the Engine Running Time
To extend the engine running time duration
of your vehicle during remote start, repeat
steps 1 and 2 while the engine is running.
If the duration is set to 10 minutes, the
duration extends by another 10 minutes.
For example, if your vehicle had been
running from the first remote start for 5
minutes, your vehicle continues to run now
for a total of 20 minutes. You can extend
the remote start up to a maximum of 35
minutes.

Exactly what I said. The manuals example is based off the remote start run time being set at 10 minutes.

You said it extends by 10 minutes which is only the case if the interval is set to 10 in the settings.

If the interval is set to 10, you can extend 3 times with the last being 5, because the Max can only be 35.

I have had remote access installed on my 15 Ex, my 16 Edge and my 17 Ex. It allows me to remote with my phone, and see the remaining time. I am VERY clear on how it works, and your initial explanation was incorrect.

Mine is set for 15 as noted yesterday. 15 + 10 + 10 = 35. :)

-- Chuck

It does not work that way! Read what I am typing.

In your case it would be 15 + 15 + 5 = 35

The last time should in theory should make it 45, but again cannot go beyond 35. If you don’t believe me go add one cycle, it will stop at 30, not 25.

close to this
I do not want to leave my key in the car, to easy to bust a window and drive off.
i was hoping to leave it running and not have to go through the shut down restart procedure to get the remote start working.
i run in to the bank or post office and it can be 2 minutes or longer.
my 06 superduty i could flip a switch off the ecm feeds and let her run all day at a set rpm without the key.
short answer is i guess i will adjust remote start to run 30 minutes.

thanks all
presently if i can see it out the store window i remote start it, but that also leaves the rear ac off and the recirc off so its cooling hot out air from outside.
have to figure how to turn on rear ac when remote starting

Keep in mind that 2018’s have secure idle. If anyone ever figures out a way to enable secure idle on a 2017 and posts the procedure to the forum I’ll pay $250.
