The Tahoes/Suburban/Yukon's will always have much better resale than the Expeditions......Right now I just did a search for used 2018 Expedition Max's, and all are in the mid 40,000......that's a hell of a 1 year depreciation since these are started in the 70,000+ range

You can buy a NEW tahoe for $48... probably barenekkid, but still

Btw you can also buy a new Expedition for around that, too. Although your dealer REALLY doesn't want you to know that

2018 XLT $55K
White Plat, equip group 202A, Driver's assist, pano sunroof, leather, 20" alum wheels.
Could have gone for the LTD, but felt we got a pretty good deal w/the XLT and only gave up 2nd row captain's chairs & B&O Audio that were the biggies for us. We usually are "top of the line" buyers, but are surprisingly very satisfied w/our XLT. Traded our '16 X5 for this and haven't looked back. And great road trip car.

We did the exact same vehicle as you. Same logic couldnt justify the limited. 202a max with driver assist and HD tow package.

From what I have seen 90% of the used 2018 Expeditions were base model limited rental cars. I would never ever buy a vehicle that was previously a rental vehicle. Did that once before and it had an engine put in at 35k miles and trans was trash at 45k miles. Rental/fleet vehicles get beat up pretty bad.

When I bought my leftover 2018 XLT, with 202A, was a little over $13,000 off sticker. I feel sorry for the folks who paid full sticker last year at this time.....it definitely pays to wait a few months on first year models to get a better price. Sticker was 66,390, purchase was 53,340. And they gave me over blue book for my trade in, so no way I could turn down that offer.

I paid full MSRP for my 2018. I wanted the Platinum MAX in tricoat white with white leather and second row bench. Couldn’t find one on any lot so a custom order it was. No wiggle room on price if you’re ordering. Dealer knows you want it. I say full retail but I actually leased it for 39 months. Lease math was based off the msrp.

Still not sure if I’ll keep it at lease end or get a newer model. I’m hoping by 2021 model year they’ll offer full lane keeping like Tesla. Would come in handy on all those 4-5 hr road trips.

$67,500 for a new '18 platinum. $81k sticker. Buckets, RES, 4WD, etc. No tow package. Took some hardball but I saw it had been on the lot for a while.

That’s a great price. Good job!

I paid $76k for my ‘18 platinum max with buckets, 4wd, and the old lady white paint. Sticker was $81.5. I ordered in Nov ‘17 and bought it in Feb of ‘18 so they were still hard to come by.

Have you heard of x plan pricing?

Besides which, there absolutely is wiggle room because the dealer has to do almost literally nothing and their sales number increase. They put in the order, it gets delivered, they unwrap it, prep it, and give you the keys. They don't need to sell it to you, service it, take it on test drives, clean it more than once, or have it take up space on their lot.

Lots of dealers will try to make an easy buck. Can't help themselves.

I my neck of the woods the Navigators had a 6 month wait and Platinum Expeditions weren’t in stock as they got sold the moment they arrived on dealer lots. Maybe the story was a bit different in other parts of the country, but when the town you live in has a median household income of 250k+, dealers aren’t too eager to drop prices because people generally pay the MSRP. I’ve tried negotiating (over a period of days) for our previous vehicle (MDX) and finally got the dealer to budge by $3k, but only because it was the last stock mode of outgoing year.

In another year Expys and Navis will be eclipsed by the 2020 Escalade / Suburban so it’s safe to assume Ford dealers will be a bit more flexible.

You could use an x plan. They can't negotiate that, prices are set. They might not be happy about it, but if they're aren't, that's tough luck for them.

Invoice is the new MSRP. Several dealers within 90 miles agreed to order a 2019 Ltd Max for $500-1000 under invoice (not including incentives). It's an easy sale for them with little cost or overhead. We did have to call outside our local metro area. The local Austin dealers were stuck on invoice, but that seems to be an aberration because dealers in the surrounding areas were more than happy to make a sale.

If we hadn't been looking for a hard-to-find config, pricing would've been much better. Several dealers within 300 miles were willing to sell 2018 XLTs and Ltds for $2000-3500 under invoice (not including incentives). (And on top of that, at the time the 2018 incentives were $4500 vs. $1500 for 2019s, which is helpful.)

Well, I bought mine for $100,000.00 CAD - A 2019 Platinum Limited MAX with the bench seat instead of the captain chairs. Unfortunately the vehicle ended up costing $121,000.00 due to the negative equity in the 2017 Limited MAX I traded in due to it being in a no-fault accident. Here, in Canada, you are penalized for all accidents including no-fault when it comes to trade-in since no one wants to buy a vehicle that has been in an accident. Forgot to mention that this includes the maintenance package to 150K and the 150K extended warranty which, in total I believe, was $9,000 CAD
