I'm finally tackling the shift indicator problem that I initially posted in this thread, but I can't seem to pull the two covers off the column.

I removed the two lower screws and separated the top and bottom halves from each other. The covers appears to be attached loosely in some way on their left sides; I can wiggle them easily on the right sides but the left are pretty solid and it doesn't appear to be another hidden screw.

I don't want to force it off and result in breaking something.

Are there detailed service instructions for removing these covers, that hopefully don't require removing the steering wheel? I don't have any sockets or wrenches with me to remove the wheel.

TIA!

Never mind.

I pulled off the lower cover and discovered a third screw way back and up into the "guts" of the column.

Removing the screw, I was then able to twist and pull off the upper cover. The lip that goes under the back of the steering wheel requires bending and contorting the cover off.

First you should show what year your expy is or post a signature line

Get yourself a copy of the ford service manual on DVD
There will be detailed information or repairs and removal of items on the expy
