My kids, ages 16, 13, and 11, went to town to get ice cream Monday night. Deer ran out in front of them. Daughter swerved to miss it and lost control. Rolled 360 degrees and landed on tires. Only bumps, bruises, and scrapes on all 3. Guessing they will total it but still waiting to hear. Want to replace with something more economical as we live in country but as well as the kids came out of this it is hard to not think about getting another one.

Well put. If it's smaller than a moose, I wouldn't swerve.

Glad everone is ok and i'd suggest you buy another expy. Screw gas prices, your family's lives are way more important.

I agree....take some money and buy a programmer to get more MPG's...you had a positive outcome because you had a well built truck and frame...a focus or fusion might have a different outcome....it saved your babies....that would be enough proof for me to buy another one...

Wow!! Glad your kids came out ok from this. Could have been a lot worse, especially if they were in a smaller vehicle. If deer are common by you (and I would assume they are), I would reconsider getting a smaller vehicle. Anything lower and a deer goes right into the windshield, where the Expy hits it dead on (no pun intended). An F150 with the V6 ecoboost might work...big and fairly economical for its size.

Dangs... Times like this is when you thank the heavens up above that you had a solid truck.. Anything less, the outcome may have been different...

Glad to hear the family is safe.. Now let's rebuild the tank so that the next deer will go under the Expy next time :)

and thats why my parents have kept mine running for so long. when ever we go out to dinner we always take it. sure its loaded with people, might not be comfy with 5+ people in there but its damn safe if something were to happen.

glad your kids are safe.

i'm so SO glad your family is safe! i'm glad the truck held up and did its job. you have alot to be thankful for this holiday season.

i cant see a reason to be in something smaller. the $ difference is not anywhere close to the safety difference.

just an FYI if you have alot of backroads explorers do hold up fairly well most of my cousins rolled explorers around that 16-17 year range i know its sounds jacked up but im serious like 4 of them all rolled over an explorer. i think 1 or 2 of them actually said they swerved to miss an elk. i spun out my corolla swerving around and elk...i saw elk while doing 75 through a mountain turn i missed elk but not the pool of blood...something much bigger then my corolla hit the elk before i went down that road obviously. im just sayin daughter will still be driving then with atleast 2 more drivers on the way stick with a decent sized suv NOT like a rav4 or honda pilot. i like toyotas but a rav4 is just a car with more headroom

So glad your kids are o.k. Seems they had a wild ride.:angels2:

Unfortunately many peoples reflexes say "Hit the brakes" and "Steer Away" literally unloading the suspension and inducing a spin/roll

Please don't take this the wrong way, I also used the "deer in the road" excuse. Years ago when my fathers truck ended up in a field drainage ditch on three wheels. Local farmer pulled me out. I was by myself, but sibling bond is very strong, as you may know. Just saying, could've be playing. No shame, often just inexperience. 25yrs from now sitting at the Christmas table you might hear "Dad, remember that red suv that....."

Seeing how everyone is OK, I can say this. If they could develop amusment park simulation rides that would duplicate car crashes like this, I would be the first in line.
