Hey everyone, for the past 6 months or so my 2000 ford expedition has been missing randomly throughout the week. Its not every day and there are no codes(CEL). It's not like a coil gone bad but instead like a gust of wind is pulsing the car. I can also hear some sort of clicking.. Any Ideas???
Edit: And once i come to a complete stop I turn the car off (if it's missing) and then it doesn't miss anymore..

don't know about the clicking but the other syptoms (wind pushing) reminds me of when I had a low grade miss when my COPs were going bad and my CEL didn't come on for 2-3 weeks... also might wanna check the 90 deg elbow on the PCV house sometimes rots and causes problems too... just my .02

I'm not thinking it could be a coil because about a year ago I replaced all of them when the manifold was cracked and replaced. I still just don't understand how to get to that 90 degree elbow even after reading the post about it and trying myself. It's just too far back in the back... But even if it was a coil, it would miss constantly correct? My next thought is a clogged injector(pita).

Are you sure its the motor and not your transfer case or transmission? Is it a AW4 aka all wheel drive or 2wheel to 4wheel Hi and low? Whats your mileage?

Not trans.. You can shift into neutral at 55 and it won't miss. 250k miles. 2wd. And to the guy who said to get it completely repaired. This is why there are forums, to help others and save money by doing the work yourself. But thanks for the input. I'm checking the pcv right now..

Jackmldog..What motor do you have? Its either 5.4 or a 4.6 V8's or 4.2 V6....Does it have the rear Ac unit?

I have a 5.4 with the rear unit and there is a bunch of crap on the passenger side. My motor does the same thing hear and there and very rarely when I come to a full kinda hard stop the rpm drops then comes right back up. But I have no issues when moving. Pcv more then likely is fine what you want to focus on are the hoses and more importantly the inside of the elbows. Pull them apart a hair to see if there is any rot cracks and if so then replace them.

After checking and fixing those if need be check into your EGR system for cracks...Better yet just go over there entire Vacuum system, Check your wire disconnects on everything under the hood. Make sure there is good contact on the censers and check the injectors the same.

If you dont have a repair manual like Hayes then I recommend getting one. And I HIGHLY recommend getting a stethoscope! You can also use some hosing and hold it to your ear but that doesnt do that good of a job.

More then likely you got some vac leaks.....and also a expedition with 250k on the old girl. Drive it like Grandma would. Shes a big ***** for even the 5.4 to push around then add in 250k!

I dont think Exfor intended that as take it to the dealer or shop. But obviously you are trying to fix it completely! lol I have been trying to fix mine completely for about 2 years....yep not going to happen!!! lol

Oh dude I forgot...going to sound crazy but check all of your fuses. I forgot which one it was but there is one under the hood that can have a effect like what you are getting and its just a fuse.

Yea, it's 5.4 w/rear air and that's amazing you have the same problems as I am. It's just ticking me off and among that problem, I have developed another. This one is when you turn the car on you can here almost like a grinding noise. But I'm going to go over all of the hoses this weekend. Probably not common but I think I have a bad egr solenoid or sometype of solenoid... I can hear it clicking.. Ughhh will update to tonight

Start cheap and simple

Have you seafoamed your engine? Really helps. If not here is the link...........
http://expeditionforum.com/showthread.php?t=7500&highlight=seafoam

My cop intermittent problem went on for 3-4 months before it threw a cel.
Really irritating. Almost felt like a torque converter shutter.

things that come to mind are:
PCV clogged or sticking
Fuel filter
Vacuum leak
Injector problem

keep us informed. We all learn something here.

Seafoamed it a week ago. Just replaced the pcv and it did have a small hole but it's still missing a little here an there. I'm pointing my finger at either the injectors or the fuel filter. Is the filter hard to replace? Maybe you could give me some steps?

Fuel filter is extremely easy to replace. Ask the auto part store if they rent a fuel filter removal tool. Makes the job a 5 minute job. Filter should be on the driver side frame rail right by the rear door.

Fuel filter was soooo much fun to replace.. I got the removal tool and got back home... got under there after pulling the fuel pump fuse and getting the pressure out. Started to undo the lines and they were rusted on which broke the removal tool in half  ... finally got it off and it was full with this black shit. i'm hoping that was my problem.. But it's probably the injectors my luck. Found a set of 8 on ebay for $100, think its worth it?

fuel filter replacement

is a fairly easy job. Two points to bring up. One, wear eye protection. Two remove gas cap to relieve gas pressure. Yep. Learn from your mistakes and pass it on.
I replaced the fuel filter after that last gas supply shortage. A lot of stations were stirring up the bottoms of their tanks and i didn't want to take a chance of fowling the injectors with debris.
