Well I got in a wreck about 2 weeks ago and my Expedition has been at ford until yesterday. I was hit in the front passenger corner right at about where my headlight is. The damage doesn't seem too too bad. I will need a new front end though. Ford estimated $7000 in repairs...That is ridiculous. I took a look and the frame and engine compartment seems to be unharmed. The car started up on the first try after sitting at ford for 2 weeks, but theres a few odd noises coming from the engine. When starting it up, the engine seems to rev a little higher than usual and also seems to idle lower than usual once its warmed up. Right when I start the car, the compressor for the air condition is spinning and the air starts to get colder, but after about 10-20 seconds I can here a little "squeek" and the compressor stops spinning. I used to always here this noise before the wreck but after the compressor was off for about 30 seconds, you could hear it click back on. Now, it seems like the car is idling too low for it to be able to click back on. Also, I can hear little clicking noises coming from the engine area, almost sounds like electricity, but I think I've always heard this when the hood was open. I also want to add that at a certain RPM (around 1000) I hear another clicking noise, but this one is more aggressive sounding, not sure if I should be worried about it. Is it possible that my engine just needs a little tune up? Is it possible that the engine was "knocked out of tune" when I got hit?

(Note: If I keep the RPM around 1000 for several seconds, the compressor seems to kick back on like it usually did. Also, the check engine light isn't on.)

To sum it up...is it possible that my engine was "knocked out of tune" without being physically damaged? Thanks.

EDIT: The noise that I thought was my engine reving louder was actually my radiator fan rubbing on the plastic shroud. Hopefully that doesn't mean everything got pushed back =/

7000 is a little pricey. Its possible that things did get slightly pushed back and you just don't see it with the naked eye. Try a local body shop they should be alot less for the same work.

im guessing the other motorist insurance is paying for the damage...if so...they are giving total replacement cost instead of repair cost...not to mention labor...paint...found that out when i got my truck fix'd from my fender bender...i got a whole new rear bumper and everything underneath...hitch...they fixed my cover...new support pads...if they touched it...total replacement so they can get the money from the insurance...dont matter to me...my insurance isnt paying for it...

Unfortunately it was my fault and I only have liability. So my insurance is paying for their car and that is all. I read the list of new parts needed in the Ford appraisal and it doesn't mention anything about repairing the engine. Says the only damage in that area is that the "radiator support" needs to be "repaired" and not replaced. Which I guess makes sense, because the cowl seems to be pushed onto the fan itself. I'm going to take the front end off today to see if I can find out exactly what needs to be done. I plan on doing everything but paint myself. Car seems to be running a lot better today. I think it was just the fact that it been run regularly in 2 weeks. Plus, it does have 159,000 miles on it. Might just be time for a tune-up.

Here are some pictures:

Before: (Gotta love 15% on the windshield.)

It can happen in a split second...

The engine needs a cleaning, I know lol.

I know some of you may be interested in my tint...I have 5 over 5 all around. 15% on the entire windshield, and then a 14" strip on the inside of that. So I actually do have a strip, but you can't see it from the outside lol. The windshield just looks as black as my side windows. I love it, only negative thing I can think of is I can't see my gauges during the day unless I turn the parking light on. Simply too dark in there lol. Time for pics...

In the shop, 15% on, but no strip yet...

Strip added after.

I drive in the shade...Even at noon lol

...I'm surprised they didn't cite you for that at the accident scene.

Either way, seems ebay and Tascaparts are going to be your new best friends.

I'll bet a good size portion of that $7000 is the airbags. The dealer probably priced new ones. Also look at the labor part and see if there is any frame labor. That can add up quick. Good luck.

Not to be a smartass (well actually, that's exactly what I'm doing), but maybe you wouldn't crash into shit if your windows weren't so dark and could actually see. :p

But in all seriousness, sorry for your accident and hope you get everything back in order quickly and cheaply. We're all here to help!

Man that sucks. Looking at the other car I would also agree with checking for frame damage. As far as parts go you can also check your local junk yards for the inner and outer fenders and front end.

That's funny! Let's see an extra $300 for full coverage or tint the windows....apparently the wrong choice.
I had my front side windows tinted and could see through them at night,
I'm glad no one was hurt as well.
The recyclers should be able to get the parts you need including the airbags for a fraction of the quoted number.
A little DIY and some paint, she'll be as good as new.

Lol, well my airbags didn't deploy actually...neither did the other car's...which is crazy. I checked the frame out and it looks like everything's fine. The only damage is to that bumper piece in the front - one of the sides is folded in. I looked in the appraisal and it mentions something about the radiator mounts needing to be repaired...so hopefully that's the only thing that's messed up and nothing else is pushed in. I'll check it out when I get a chance.

But yeah...I don't think the tint had anything to do with it to be honest lol. It was bright outside, and I was looking through the front (which looks clear during the day). I think I would contribute the wreck to my tiredness lol. I literally rolled out of bed and got in the car. But as soon as a I hit the chick the first thing I did was roll down the windows so I didn't get a ticket for that haha.

Smooth move rolling down the windows :favorites13: Best wishes for a speedy repair. Speaking from experience, driving tired can be as bad as driving drunk...

Nah, not undercover...My motto is go hard or go home. I got in a fight with my mom so I decided that I wasn't going home on this one. So I got the darkest I could get, 5% over 5% with 15% on the windshield lol. Although I have a friend with 5% on the windshield. Lol, he has HID floodlights mounted on the roof of his 2010 Silverado just to see at night. I got my windshield metered and it measured 9% lol.
