This is rather a useless thread seeing there's no video or pics!

So you just swapped the muffler, using the stock piping, with a bigger tip, correct?

Is there any drone at highway speeds, or can you even hear it over wind and tire noise?

It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I only get heavy drone when I'm in tow/haul pulling a trailer. Then it gets pretty loud. But just everyday driving it's not bad at all.
I would of been disappointed getting the super 44 or any 40 series. But that's me.
Still having the factory headers and cats. Tones it way down too..

Right. I'm trying to decide what muffler to use. I don't want it too loud, but want to be able to hear the V8 rumble when I step on it. I have a magnaflow on my pickup (06 F-150) and like it pretty well, but it's almost too quiet....will do more research. Thanks for your help.

I still had the factory muffler on my 05 before I traded it but I was also wanting more volume when I stepped on it. I just didn't want the drone when I was going down the highway at 75 MPH. We do a several long trips a year and I didn't want to have to listen to the drone for 8 hours. I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

Niko, have you noticed any difference in performance and/or fuel economy with the different muffler?

Yes. Definitely gained noticeable power. I'm getting 13.5 to 14 mpg not too much change in fuel mileage. But better performance. And the drone is not bad at faster highway speeds. On an older model truck or mussle car its a whole lot more drone. But on an 09 expedition it's really sound proof inside anyway. Idk it may be screaming on the outside of the truck. I just can't tell inside. That would be a good test.lol.

Check out Gibson's offering. I don't have one, but based on the couple videos I've seen and owner feedback, there's virtually no drone and yet you can hear when you step on it. However, some complained that it was too quiet, so you may have the same issue that you have with the Magnaflow.

Well it looks like I can get a stainless Magnaflow for about the same $$ as a aluminized-steel Gibson, so I may go that route. I am mostly concerned about drone, and tone is somewhat secondary. We plan to go on a 2500+ mile trip this summer, and I DO NOT want drone! LOL not sure yet what I'm going to do....I would like to do all I can for fuel economy too of course, especially with the afore-mentioned trip in mind.

To the OP, if you want me to bug off and start a different thread, feel free to say so. Thanks.

Definitely stick with stainless regardless of what you get. The "lifetime" warranties generally don't cover corrosion. The best price I've seen on the stainless Gibson was around $420.
