Good to have you on the forum Mando. Through much internal debate, I decided not to go with the K& N because the gain is very minimal with the detriments outweighing it. Even on my civic board, I've heard some complaints with engine noise, bad seals, and even decreased HP. I'd say the 2-4 HP is not worth me worrying over whether or not it's gonna hurt my Expedition in the long run. I say we wait for the CA intake, but as for now, I haven't found any.

Hello I'm new here but I would like to say that Some of this talk about K&N's damaging engines is a pretty tough pill to swallow! I've had numerous Ford's including a 11 sec Mustang and have had K&N's on every one of them. I run a FIPK on my EB and absolutley love it and would reccomend it to anyone.

Now if money is an issue (and when isnt it?) I would highly not reccomend it for the marginal gains it provides. Yes marginal! BUT "GAINS"
they are the most reputable company when it comes to automotive filtration.

The U.S Coast Guard uses them on their 41' Utility boats which are powered by 2 Cummings 340 Hp Turbocharged diesels. And believe me these Boats work, constantly attacked with intrusive seawater and other contaminates. These guys test the oil in them daily and they have absolutley no problems at all.

The simple fact is it may not be for everyone however you need to remember that a engine is just a giant "AIR" pump and the more air you feed it the more you can combust the more power you make.

And I got news for you silica worryers! You have alot more Paracytic contaminates in your engine than you think including shavings of metal!!

Oil filter guys!!

Also remember everyones sittuation is different. there is alot of causable factors that determine a gain in HP,MPG etc:
other modifications
altitude (commonly never taken into consideration)
Maintenance history of vehicle
tire pressure
weight of vehicle
etc,etc
