Am in the same boat - Assuming this is a 4th gen, you will need to go to a dealer and have them add an additional key (After which you can do your own). Having it done at a locksmith doesn't guarantee that the 2nd key will be able to add additional, as they often (not alway) clone the primary key, so the car doesn't see them as distinct keys.

I am actually set to have a dealer in GA do my car when I am up there next week, as the price is $125-150 cheaper up there vs down here in Miami.

If I were here, you would know it !
You failed to post the year, make and model of your vehicle - and the type of key (fob) it has.
I'm reasonably certain that a 22 has the one piece fob without a physical key, but there could be an emergency key inside the body of the fob.

Anyway, cloning the existing key won't work very well and will probably present starting issues down the road, so unless your locksmith has the correct programming tools, you'd be better off taking it to a dealer. Yes it will cost more, but you can be assured that it will done correctly.

I just bought a Dorman universal key fob from Advance Auto this week for around $50 (4-button). Only required 1 functioning key fob to program and it includes the instructions. Took 5 minutes to program. Bought my vehicle used and only included one set of keys.

A good option for all you out there with one key fob and you want to actually have a programmed key and not cloned key is to go to batteries plus. I bought one for my 2018 expedition and with programming and cutting it was $180. That's key, cutting, and programming. Then I bought a cheap $20 one from Amazon and programmed it with my two "original" keys. I got batteries plus to cut my cheap key too. Just check that it works before you leave.

How do you program a new key fob with only one original key fob? 22 Ford Expedition
For my 2006 and 2009, it is actually easier to put the key in the ignition and do the magic combination to program the fob. Then i buy the remotes off of amazon for $10 a pair. far cheaper than a spare key.
If you lose your integrated key fob, you can take your registration (keep a copy of it on your phone) and go to the dealer and they can usually make a key for $250.
If it is just the key, I have paid $10 for factory copies of the key at the dealer parts counter.
You can also have a mobile locksmith make them. They might charge a large service fee so ask first. Might be cheaper to go into the locksmith shop.

Bit of a necrothread, but it appears on-topic & newest I could find....

2017 Expedition XLT. I have the new (blank) key fobs--or, what I thought was correct. These: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCNY3XM6
Don't want to cut them until I know they're going to work. I can't get them to RF pair for doors, etc.--my understanding is that that should work via key 1 / on 3 - 10 sec, then off; key 2 / on 3 - 10 sec w/in 3 - 10 sec of key 1, then off; then press a button on the new key fob to pair? I get nothing from that.

I'm being told my issue is the FCC ID of the radio gizmo in the fob: These keys use the CWTWB1U793 standard (which I gather was earlier years' standard for the Expedition); whereas mine allegedly requires N5F‑A08TAA (which are apparently made of unobtanium, at least in the 5-button version). Meanwhile, multiple posters on this site ( https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/how-to-add-remote-start-using-forscan.36477 ) have claimed that this one works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0184O6PFW ; however, it's also clearly labeled "CWTWB1U793," so I'm at a loss....

I've got FORScan ready to do its thing, but I can't figure out how to get the programming going. Can anyone help a newbie dig his way out here?
- is it possible to program the RF pairing (*not* the PATS or remote start bit) without cutting the key?
- for that matter, is it possible to program the PATS without cutting the key? [i.e., via FORScan]
- can anyone decipher the FCC ID conundrum?

Thanks for any pointers!!

Following up to my own post, in case it helps anyone:

The key feature (see what I did there...?) turns out to be the replacement p/n (and, it looks like either of these are the "CWTWB1U793" FCC ID, so that wasn't the issue after all).

SO, my initial, non-working aftermarket keys were 164-R8056. Couldn't get them to pair or for the car to "see" them at all.

Once I realized there was a physically-identical, but different RF standards/protocol key out there, I tried 164-R8000. This was the correct key, paired on the first attempt*, and no drama getting the PATS programmed once I had them cut (via the 2x key system; FORScan doesn't appear to be capable for my year/model). These are the ones I ordered/am now using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0184O6PFW

So, $35 bucks or so all-in for the aftermarket keys + cutting them at the local Ace Hardware: I now have remote start working flawlessly plus two new keys for the vehicle.

This is all applicable to my 2017 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5L; I cannot comment on other/different models. My understanding is that it should be the same for all 2015 - 2017 Expedtions, but I cannot prove that.

* I see in my previous post that I was still using the wrong pairing technique. I later discovered the 8x cycle of OFF/RUN/OFF/RUN... w/ the existing key to enter the programming mode. Still didn't work for the keys I'd ordered.... ALSO: I learned the hard way that pairing one RF key means pairing them all! Once you pair a key fob, it erases all previously-paired fobs. You need to pair ALL fobs during the same session (in my case, four: the two new keys + the two existing/previously paired factory keys).

Just want to add to the forum. If you are using Forscan PATS programming is available for current model years you just need to make sure you download the latest version and have an active license. For anyone with the push to start keys if you have one good key what I've been doing is I bought a Chinese key copier and the smallest endmill bit I could buy for it. This allows me to cut my own "laser" cut keys. They're like $130 but I've cut a lot of the $25 Amazon keys now so worth it. You then taking the advice of @Jughead135 ensure the protocol matches. Then you use forscan to erase all keys and program two new keys. Once complete you choose program additional key which then let's you add your spares.
