Larger tires

If I put 285/70TR17 sized tires on my 2001 Expedition, will I notice any changes in performance or ride quality? I would like a little larger than stock tire for looks, but don't want to affect the ride much.

Are you using the stock 7.5" wide rim? I don't know if a 285/70 tire would fit will on a 7.5" rim, that's pretty much the upper limit for that rim width. I'm not sure what the stock size is for the 01' but if it's 255/70, then you would have an increase in handling... assuming the tire fits on the rim.

The tire mfg. sites list the acceptable rim widths on the printable data sheets for each tire. I was looking at a set of Dueler Revos for a 7.5 inch stock rim and that is indeed at the bottom of the acceptable rim width.

My question is - how SAFE is it to do this?
