Load Range E Tires

I have a good deal on a brand new set of General Grabber HTS tires. My stock size on the 99 expy is 265/70/17. The Grabbers are off a 2011 F350, 245/75/17 so they are the same diameter and revs per mile, no speedometer problems. However, they are a load range E tire, higher pressures (up to 80psi) and higher loads allowed, but stiffer sidewall and ride etc. I can get the full set brand new for $450 at my door.

Anybody run these truck tires on our big SUVs? Are they better with/without Air Ride? Do they last a long time? Effect on fuel economy? I would thing mpg would suffer? I noticed the tread depth on these is 14/32 vs 12/32 for the passenger car version (which is what i put on our minivan and these are good tires). These E tires must last forever with that deeper tread.

Any input would be appreciated!

You should be alright. I recently got 10 ply terra grapplers and haven't had any problems with ride or mpg's. It's just harder rubber and they tend to last longer, at least that's what I was told and so far so good

bro we need e range, we have heavy trucks, the less flex in the tires the better

You should be fine but They are thinner and taller if that whats your going for.

245's are too narrow and will affect your footprint and the ability to stop and turn. The ride will be harsh and it will be harder on your suspension components.
Your stock tire load rating is about 2337 lbs per tire which is a 9348 lb total vehicle weight.
IMO you should stick to the stock size or a little larger and proper load range.
Depending on where you are located, you should be able to buy stock tires for about $125 each, only $500 for a set.

Thanks for this input. I will say the height is the same, within a few revs/mile. Yes they are narrower but I have no problem with that as it will translate to better snow traction. They are heavier but per Goodyear a 10% increase or decrease in tire weight only affects fuel economy by 0.1%. The best price I can find here in Wisconsin is about $150/tire for a decent new tire....still on the fence.

I have 10 ply BFG ATs on mine. The ride is a little stiffer, but mine still rides good. I think they work better with our heavier vehicles and they are stronger off road as well as wearing. just my opinion.

my Nitto's are 10 ply just play with your air pressure to get good wear and ride... your truck will handle better

That's an interesting option in Madison, but that's like 110 miles away, I never have heard of that tire before, and it's a 500 treadwear rating vs 640 on the Generals.

I appreciate everone's input. I have decided to go with the 245/75/17 General Grabber HTS Truck tire, based on the experience of the guys running truck tires with no regrets. The Grabbers have 14/32 tread depth and a 640 treadwear rating so they should last a long time, and I can live with a stiffer sidewall, which should improve the handling of this old lumberwagon!
