well since the expy doesn't have all the room i'm used to with my excursion. i've been wanting one of those hitch platforms. found a nice one at Walmart for $60 but i knew i just got a welder and had scrap steel at home. so this morning i made my own! it will fit a lawn mower, large air compressor, fire wood...ect ect perfect for road trips/camping or whatever.

starting out...

thats awesome! I think Panda is about to take a welding class.

i am! if i get emailed and email them back first! then ill get in in september. if not... then idk??? get a 2nd job or get lucky somewhere with a yob.:shrug: soooo...

but that thing is cool. i wanna make something like that, but i LOST THE ******* KEYS to my hitch lock!!!!!!! i lost them the day i got it. and that was on x-mas! WTF?! haha so idk what i can do. call masterlock and be like... can i have another, or just cut it off with a torch???:shrug: and get another one and put those keys on my key ring instantly!!! haha

but i can see your shoe prints, might wanna put some cross support from where it enters the hitch and the corners... just a thought if you dont think it is strong enough. i think it might be, but you never know... but i like the fact that you can adjust it for the length you might need. thats cool.

i was going to, i had the sheet metal around thus = free and when i priced it out they wanted more for expanded then sheet metal! so i said screw that i'll use what i got lol

i have some flat bar running across the bottom to support the sheet metal. plan on adding alittle more just to beef it up. i miss my welder i used to have at my old work. but this little one i got does the job for little things like this, and exhaust, body work so i'm happy.

heres a few pics w/the lights on. need to add some red marker lights to the rear. the ones back there currently are brake lights.

on the lights, since it is a fixed point on the truck the amber markers on the front of it are illegal at least here in WA...

maybe something to check into

hate to see a rookie cop give you a ticket over something like that

how strong is the squre stock sliding in the receiver? it looks kinda thin my only fear is if you have the compressor back there etc and hit a nice bump in the road and the weight goes up and when it comes down will it bend it. im gonna make another rack soon gave the last one away. i find the thickest stuff possible atleast for the center going into receiver. just a though. i love the finished look though. and i know you used what you had.

it was the shit used from street signs, my buddy had some extra from a construction site. its pretty decently thick stuff. i used to build hitches and crap at my old work and of course this aint gonna hold 1000lbs but i'd rate it for 3-400 i think. ofcourse i have no way of knowing for sure. but i know i had me(125lbs, my dad(250lbs) and my friend (158lbs) on it and it did not show an signs of bending..that was with us kinda jumping on it lol
