New to the group. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am having intermittent random mild vibration from what feels like the front driver's side. It doesn't occur when cold but once on the road for a while at low speeds, it comes and goes. Iwe check valves and solenoids have been replaced. I guess the noise could be coming from the engine because it does seem to be right before/after shifts but continues after. Also, not sure if related, I live in Colorado and during cold mornings it takes a few seconds to turn over but idles perfect. The noise also seems to be more pronounce while driving conservatively almost as if it's bogging. Took it to dealership and of course we couldn't recreate the noise. And no codes.

I would put money on it being the iwe still. Try putting it in 4WD and see if it goes away. Sometimes the iwe itself loses seal and tries to engage.

I can’t say for sure unless the leak is bad enough that the hubs are actually engaged when it’s cold and eventually start holding vacuum when the seals get warmed up a bit and then begin to disengage some. Just a guess

Didn't occur today. I tried recreating it. But I did notice more of a bog at low speeds 5 to 15mph. Or letting off the gas lightly. Im going to check that maybe it's a faulty fuel injector. I also checked the mpg and it's very low 10.0 and I usually get 13 here on Colorado winters and crappy winter gas.

So I do believe it's the iwe, vacuum leak somewhere. I've tried to look online but couldn't find anything. It's not the check valve or the solenoid. At idle I unplugged it from the actuator and it had vacuum. So it only occurs while driving, mainly while at lower rpm. I've got a new complete vacuum line coming in but I was wondering if there is a vacuum reservoir in these newer models. The 04 to 08 has one behind the battery. Also how much per inch vacuum should it have at the actuator at idle?

You could test if the iwe is losing seal by hooking a vacuum tester up to the line. If it holds, your iwe isn’t the culprit.

I've got a guage. Do you happen to know what the vacuum should be at, during idle, at the vacuum line?

You should be able to hold between 20-24 psi. If the gauge drops over a 5 minute hold, then you have an iwe leaking. They are on the same main line, so you would have a hard time telling which one is leaking. If they fail the test, just replace both of them.

Vacuum lines and actuators held vacuum. But im only pulling a constant vacuum of 16. So im assuming I have a vacuum leak. I tried three propane trick couldn't find it. Any thoughts? Im about to change the spark plugs cause they are due, but I'm not sure if that has any affect on the vacuum. I can't find any good diagrams of the 2013 5.4 3v.

I have a little hesitation at slow speeds but I'm assuming that's because the plugs are original. Just hit 100,000.

Year, make, model and drive mode would be helpful.

If a 2013 - 2018 Expedition, check this: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164426-0001.pdf

I had a grinding noise while driving uphill in 2WD in my 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4 and the “factory trained technician” at my Ford dealer could not duplicate. When I drove home from the dealership, the noise continued.

I replaced the vacuum check valve per this TSB (actually an earlier one, as this one has been updated) and it eliminated the noise.

Thanks. I've replaced all check valves and all the lines held vacuum. Also pumped the iwe and they held as well. The plastic hose coming from the back of the engine by the firewall in picture above is only producing 15in vacuum. So I believe while I'm driving the vacuum will drop momentarily and then come back. I believe that is the brake booster but I can't find a diagram or video of how to install it. Guess I'll just dig and figure it out. My vehicle is a 2013 Expy 5.4 3v limited 4wd.

Did you check the new check valves by blowing through them to make sure they work? Sometimes they are funky. They are what is responsible for keeping vacuum on the hubs when you accelerate. Generally when you accelerate vacuum drops, this is when it’s important to have a good seal. Anyway plugs are a good start for low RPM shakes, when I got my 2007 it shook a lot at idle. It turned out 4 spark plugs backed themselves out and had no torque on them. They were all fouled out with carbon and misfiring, replacing them took the shakes away.

Yeah they are all good. Checked them out. But im only getting 15in vacuum from the brake booster line that the iwe pulls from. Should be 20. Im going to take everything off that im comfortable with to see if it's loose. Or cracked. If yall have a diagram of this operation that would be awesome. It's right up against the firewall and looks to be a pain.
