Hey, I appreciate this website very much and the input from so many obviously smart people. I have a 1997 Expy, I have an intake leak, allowing exhaust into my coolant and a coolant lead coming from the back passenger side of the engine. My question is, being somewhat mechanically minded, is breaking down the top of the engine, intake manifold, possibly heads, etc... a difficult job or is it a standard 123 teardown and rebuild? Any pointers? Any input is very welcome. I'm Neal, married , dad of 6.

Sounds like a standard issue head gasket problem.
I haven't done one myself, but I know it is a long way in and out. Not a hard job, but time consuming tearing down the top of the engine.
I actually dodged a bullet on this a few years ago. My old '99 with a 4.6 blew a passenger side head gasket. But luckily for me, my wife left with the Expy and it became her problem in the divorce. :)
Take your time and don't cut any corners! If your finances will allow it, maybe think about replacing the heads with some PI heads.

It would depend on your mechanical abilities, what tools you have and amount of miles on the engine.
Has the engine ever overheated?
What is the mileage on the motor?
