My 98EB needs an EGR Valve replacement

My "check engine" light is on and I took it to a mechanic. They said the code was for the EGR valve. He claimed this was a common problem on Expy. I was told I could let it go until emissions inspection but estimated $300-350 to replace valve and clean carbon build up. Anyone have any experience with this?

dude, he's bullshitting you, its not hard to change one out, one day i had my check engine light come one, i went to autozone and checked it out and got P0402, EGR VAlve flow Excessive,...the problem, the EGR valve is sticking open, the solution, buy a new one, or TRY to clean the old one, how? carb cleaner and pipe cleaners.....try it, oh and the price for a new one, i THINK 60 bucks!

If you service your EGR, consider cleaning the ports as well. It's a common issue on older models. Here's a good how-to that someone put together.
