What advantage is there to plugging my Android into the USB port in the front part of the console?
Somebody said I could use an app that makes the navigation screen a Google tablet or something like that.
What other stuff would it do?

If you have an Android, it enables you to use Android Auto which makes it easier to access the media on your phone i.e. spotify or pandora. It also uses google maps from your phone for up to date maps and traffic. I'd guess it would open apple car play too, but can't confirm that because I use android.

You can start reading it here https://www.android.com/auto/ I love looking at Waze on the big 8" screen, google assist is awesome. Also, there are some Android phone that support wireless without having to plug in like Google Pixel, you can follow google for updates on other compatibles devices.
