Here's my scenario:

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4L SOHC VIN "L"

I pulled the engine for an overhaul but then engine was no good. So I bought a new engine.

The new engine is from a 98 Expedition and nearly everything is identical except the intake systems; intake manifold, throttle body, vacuum routing, HVAC heater hose assembly (tube to back of water pump).

The 98's HVAC tube has an additional 1/4" outlet type that the 97 does not have. Also, the 98's throttle body has an additional 1/4" inlet tube and two additional vacuum lines connected on the passenger side (right side) of the throttle body. The 97 does not.

My questions are....

1. Will the 98's system work with my computer in my 97 Expedition1?

2. Are there any performance or efficiency or mechanical/maintenance perks between the two intake systems?

3. If I have to use the 97's intake system because of my 97 computer, will the 97's intake even work on the 98's block and cylinder heads.

4. Do you have a 98 Expedition with the same setup as my new 98 engine's intake?

Additional Note: I have rebuilt the 98 engine. New paint, pretty much everything.

I will comment the images so they are separated to make it easy on everyone.

HERE'S THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 98 AND 97 HVAC HEATER HOSE ASSEMBLIES. Remember, the 98's tube has the extra 1/4" outlet tube.

can't do it right away but will get to it,

the throttle cable side with a 3 in 1 nipple deal looks like an easy shot but the other side has stuff around that might not give a clear shot

this shot does show 2 nipples (from the tb)?

or 3 hoses in 1 (nipple from the tb)?

That is fine. I'll accept rough images. If possible, where do those lines and the three from the other side connect to on the other end. I have my assumptions but would rather be definitive.

ok, just to cover this part, had a close up look at your pix

it looked at first to me that u had 2 ports coming out the tb @ the throttle cable side

a close up looks like u have 1 port/nipple with a plastic 3 in 1 fitting

i'd say then your 98 tb matches mine

bit more info (99) on what goes on here at the tree, the middle hose is a vac line that goes to the pcv vaive on the left cyl head cover, the vac line there splits off to the back of the engine where i can't see
https://www.f150online.com/forums/v...g-throttle-body-coolant-line.html#post3027134

the B port on mine goes to something (looks like some kinda sensor/switch) at the front of the intake, right next to the alternator

prob no big deal, but the B port on my 98 tree is straight (like A in the pix) whereas the pix in the link shows a 90 deg bend for a 99 engine

the additional port (no rubber hose connected here) on this one carries all of the small thin plastic diff colored vac lines that go all over the place, inducing the top of the egr & other associated evap bits, the fuel rail, over to the charcoal caister behind the battery & on to the front axle
