Well, I did it. Just bought a '05 expedition with just over 60000 miles. Seems to be in pretty good shape but I purchased it online so we'll see when it gets here. XLT, 3rd seat, rear air, nothing too special but has all the stuff we need. I know Consumer's Report says to stay away from the '05 Exp but they said that about my 2000 Explorer (89000 miles no problems) and my '99 Silverado (100,000 miles and had to replace the ABS module but that's it). We needed something to fit 8 people and tow a trailer. Looked at Toyota Sequoia but too small inside and not enough towing capacity. Also more $. Maybe I'll be kicking myself but I love my Explorer and wouldn't get rid of it except need more room.:hidesbehindsofa:

Nice color. I would have preferred that green but I ended up with dark grey.

I am curious about members experience with durability of their Exp's. How many miles can you expect out of the 5.4 assuming regular maintainance? One of the first things I did when I picked up my Explorer was service the transmission. Had 49000 on it when I bought it and now has 89000 without problems.

Very nice. Tastefully done. Those look like pretty big sway bars. Do they help your handling? Affect your ride?

Mines an 05 had zero problems with it. Now about to do transmission just because I then know it's done. I'm on 100700 at the moment and it doesn't miss a beat.

pic of the new beast

Here's a pic of the beast. I'll post more once I get it. Kinda looks like Darth Vader's Exp?

Family Vehicle

Thanks, it's nice to be welcomed. On reading the posts of some of the members it is clear to me that most of you are more natural "gear heads" than I. I need my ride to stay fairly stock. My toddlers need to be able to climb over the running boards and into the car so raising it is out of the question. I would be interested in what members would suggest for performance/handling mods that might increase power and more importantly improve durability. Every vehicle I have owned in the past no matter how good has had a "weak link". Thoughts?:hmm:

I actually like your idea of suspension mods. Exhaust would be good. Programmer? Don't know that much about them. My guess is that air intakes and programmers and exhaust would increase power in certain situations but probably not gas mileage?

yes programmers, intake and exhaust increase HP and MPG as well... they allow the engine to work easier

Interesting. That's quit the beast you have there. I BET IT'S FUN IN THE MUD!
I am curious though, with all the restrictions on auto manufacturers with respect to fuel efficiency, why would they not want to put the best programs/parts on the vehicles and get the best gas mileage from the beginning?

probably the cost in R&D and more of a friendly tune.... programmers are a little more agressive to extreme depending on the "tune" custom or canned

"new" expy to be here by Friday!

I can't wait! I'm a little worried. I went through a reputable trucking firm, has good reviews on the web but then when I called the driver's local number they gave me I talked to some lady with an Eastern European accent who sounded like I just woke her up. She had all the right info eventually so we'll see. As long as it gets here in one piece.:party36:
