04XLT4x4,

The problem is Koons is "eating" the cost of the replacement, something they wouldn't do if I didn't purchase the vehicle from them.

I purchased mine from Carlton Massey in Pocomoke City...so I have to see if they will do it.

Dave,

Understand, but if that dealer gives you too much hassle, then ask them why Koons is doing it for their customers? And then maybe a letter to the owner of the dealership explaining how disatisfied you are and will take your buissness to Koons in the future.

Koons wants to keep me happy, I have bought a Cobra and now this vehicle from them in 1 year. But seems to me if one dealer is doing it, they all should. Good luck

Unforetunately, not all dealerships are the same. Some dealerships will mark up vehicles for a premium and others will not. The manufacturers have no control over what the dealerships do.

So, what one dealership does, does not necessarily mean the other will follow.

When it comes to questionable warranty repair, some dealerships will eat the cost while others won't give up a penny if it is within their right.

I don't suppose you can take digital pictures of your dirty running boards?

I've since cleaned and scrubbed mine and even placed a front and rear mud guard to absorb as much of the dust as possible, but I'd like to send a digital picture of the dirty running boards to see what my dealership will say.

Keydo,

Understand, but if this is something that you really want, then you have to push the dealer into doing it. I have had a similar situation with a Honda Dealer and he refused to make it right. I wrote a nice detailed letter to American Honda explaining to them my dissatisfaction and they responded with a letter that told me to go back to the dealer and it would be resolved to my satisfaction.

Some dealers are penny pinchers, but if you don't push them, they won't do anything. If you guys are still having issues with your dealer doing the pad swap, i would write a letter to Ford Inc Customer Relations, info your dealer, and ask Ford why some dealerships are doing the swap at no charge to the customer and why isn't yours? Chances are you will get what you want, just may take time.

You don't need to have pictures, there is a service bulletin out there. I believe that eventually, with patience, you guys will get the pads. It is peanuts to Ford versus' the bad feelings to their customer base.

Again, hope you guys get your pads swapped and i would remember this before I bought another car from these dealers that are being ***** about it......

I took my 04 EB in to the Service Department after 1000 miles and talked to them about the dusty brake pads. They said the new ones were not under Ford Warranty but they would replace them at No charge anyway. So they ordered them and it took a month to come in as so many people are replacing the pads. They installed them this week and I have seen an 80% drop in dust and have not found any change in stopping power. So I'm very happy with the Dealer and the new pads.

Well, after raising a little stink at Ted Britt Ford in Northern Virginia, looks like they are going to meet me half way ( I think that means they will perform the labor to replaced the front and rear pads for free ) I will have to pay for the pads. The reason I don't have a definite answer yet is that I have been trading voicemails with the Service Manager. He mentioned the pads are about $250.00. I have only had the EB Exby for two months, unfortunetely it was built in 10-2003. Glad to hear the new pads make a big difference. As I finalize details this week, I'll let ya know what happened.

I had the same experience as did RAY. Dealership was very accomodating. I made mention to them that it was getting old that I was having to wash almost daily. I found that my 04 Expy was placed into service 4 days prior to the new updated pads came out. I didn't have to asked, they just said they would update at no charge. I guess I would expect this type of service when spending the amount of money I did on a new Expedition.

I have an 03 Expedition built in June of 03. Of course, it has the old pads. Due to the severe winter conditions here with snow and salt, didn't wash the vehicle much. Cleaned the vehicle thoroughly the other day and found that the accumulated brake dust was starting to eat through the thin wheel coating and into the aluminum wheel. Vehicle has 34+ thousand miles on it. Took it to the dealer for routine maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, etc) and just mentioned the problem with the brake dust and wheels. I was on my way out the door to pick up the vehicle when the dealership called and said "If you can leave the vehicle with us overnight, you can pick it up tomorrow late afternoon with new brakes AND wheels!" Of course, I've been a customer for a long time and have bought many vehicles from them. Talk about good customer service!!!!!!!!

I WISH my dealer would care enough to do that.

wkohler, would you mind letting me know the name of your dealer? I'm going to gather up some posts and fax it down to the sales manager to try to get help from him.

My dealer did them for me too, we just had to say that they squeeked ;)

The new pads are great, no more excessive dusting!

I did not have any luck with the Houston area dealers nor could I find any of the suggested pads to eleviate dust on my 03'. However I did find some ceramics offered by Autozone (special order) for about $45.00. The brand was Morse, had not heard of them but two days later and about 1.5 hrs for the install I am relatively dust free. I am getting more dust on the rears(not offered yet) than on the front, which ain't bad. About Six weeks use, definately much happier now, so is the misses(which is important).

The job as a do-it-yourselfer isn't hard but very dirty, all of that dust gets caked on the calibers.

For the price and results, it was not a bad solution.

Just an update to my new pads. I now have 1800 miles on them and no problems. If anybody is looking to getting the new pads, I would highly suggest to do so.

Morse Brake Pads

Spoonman

Do you have a part number for that Morse brake pad from Autozone?

I called my local Autozone (California) and they gave me the following part number

934C

but also said that it's not available to them for this region - so again, no ceramic brake pads for the '03 EXPY.

So, it sounds like some Autozone stores can get it and some can't. Why is that?

Well, Ted Britt Ford performed the swap for the new pads and what a HUGE difference, I am very happy, although I did have to pay $ 350.00 to have it done. They discounted the labor by about $ 150.00 according to the service manager. I am not happy with Ford that I had to pay for this, I have hung onto my receipt in case there is a recall.
If you are thinking about doing the swap, I would reccommend that you bite the bullet and do it.

Brake pads, rotors, and finally resolution

Interesting experience with my '03 Expy...

I've been complaining about the brake dust and squeaking brakes since we got the truck 2 years ago... at 15,000 miles they "inspected" everything and said we had 60% of the OEM pads left, and the squeaking was normal. Additionally, the truck always shakes at 70 MPH... "Could not reproduce" was the answer (it's OBVIOUS!)

Anyway, I did my own oil change at 20k, and everything looked the same.. besides, they were 60% at 15k.

25k miles, and screech, crunch... the pads wore on ONE edge and went into the rotors.

Complained to the dealership... They don't warranty the brakes, so they say, but finally negotiated 20% off the parts.

$480 later, new pads and rotors, and they don't squeak, and don't make as much brake dust... but why the **** did I have to pay for it?

Now, the tires... Continentals... never liked them. Finally, they "reproduced" my issue and measured "excessive road force" on the tires... I got 4 brand new (continental again) tires at 25k miles... truck is smooth as silk now.

So, in conclusion, pay an extra $500 for the car new, and it finally performs as it should have when it was new in the first place.

This is probably the last Ford we'll own. (F/L/M)... my other car is a Volvo S60R, and although Ford owns them as part of PAG, I will continue with the Volvos!

I bought my new/used (16,000 miles) 2004 Expedition and found out right away that I had the old brake pads. It's not hard to notice on 22" chrome wheels.

I went back to the dealer and raised a huge stink about it. I explained that it's not like the salesman was advertising that they had the old brake pads on it nor did I know it was an issue. After a lengthy battle and talking to the General Sales Manager we agreed that they would give me brand new brake pads (the upgraded ones) and I would do the install myself.

I took my sweet time and washed each wheel completely so I could monitor the new brake dust and it took me about 2 hours or so to swap all brake pads, front and rear.

Now that I've had them on for nearly 1 week I can tell you that it has made a HUGE difference. I wouldn't go paying big money for someone else to put them on. I would go to your dealer and try and get them to at LEAST sell them to you at their cost. My dealer said their cost was $160 for all pads. I was lucky and got them to buy my pads for me.

This is a MUST have upgrade. You will not be disappointed if you upgrade to the new pads.

Good luck.

Does anyone know what material these pads are made of. I drive quite a bit with my window down. Just makes me wonder how much of this brake dust I am inhaling.
